Maryland Officers Shoot, Kill Man Wielding "Assault Rifle" Pellet Gun

May 30, 2014  |

A man holding a pellet gun that looked like an assault rifle was shot and killed by Suitland, Md., police Friday morning.

Julie Parker, Director of Media Relations for the Prince George's County Police Department, told WUSA TV two veteran officers responded to a call for a dispute in the 3300 block of Curtis Drive near Overlook Elementary School around 2:15 Friday morning.

Once on scene the officers encountered two men outside an apartment building. One of the men appeared to be armed with an assault rifle.

A similar incident happened recently here in California in Sonoma County where a deputy shot a teenager who wielded an airsoft AK-47 rifle at him. The results were predictable. Statewide demonstrations and protests (both peaceful and not), calls for criminal charges against the deputy, and calls from lawmakers to tighten airsoft restrictions.

The only way to stop this proliferation of dangerous toy guns in society is to send SWAT teams to Toys R Us to take out any kid that even tries to touch a toy gun! It's the only way to insure that we go home after our shift! See a kid with a toy gun? Kill them immediately. After all we can't be too careful.

GP Cobb @ 5/31/2014 8:56 AM

Hey, they bitch about our legal guns! Wouldn't it make more sense to stop production of 'toy gunz'? I have step grand-kids who think it's cute to stick on in our face and go click click. Angers and disgusts this olde man........

Capt. Crunch @ 5/31/2014 10:03 AM

You have to ask yourself what is a grown man doing with a toy gun in a disturbance incident. I think any reasonable person would consider the object a real firearm.

Lenny @ 5/31/2014 7:56 PM

You have to ask yourself why is it the only people who shoot people with toys are cops?

Bruce @ 6/1/2014 9:46 AM

Lenny, it's because the only people that are scared of toys are cops! In fact cops are scared of everything. They go out in body armor armed to the team and rarely alone and are scared to death they won't finish their shift. Then they proceed to assault and murder innocent Americans. What a bunch of low life scum!

Lowrider @ 6/1/2014 6:51 PM

Hey Bruce, didn't mama ever tell you, if you have nothing nice to say just be quiet. If you don't like the Police so much, what are you doing on this website? Go get a job and try to stay off your mom's computer.

Nichole @ 6/2/2014 4:33 AM

Hey Bruce... I think the phrase you're looking for is armed to the "teeth"... numbnuts.

Johnny Law @ 6/2/2014 11:15 AM

Lenny and Bruce.....It is because COPS are the ones that YOU call when you are too scared to handle it yourself! While you and Bruce cower in the closet in mommies basement we are the ones that go and confront the stuff that scares you and makes you wet the bed. Hope that was simple enough for you two dumba$$es! If you carry what looks like a real gun and don't drop it when the police tell you to you will probably be shot. Pretty simple concept to understand.

Prguy @ 6/3/2014 4:50 PM

If that was me, I'm going home at the end of my shift, sorry about your luck, but you should have dropped it. I have family depending on me to come home.
