N.H. Town's White Police Commissioner Calls Obama N-Word

May 16, 2014  |

A police commissioner in a predominantly white New Hampshire town says he won't apologize for calling President Barack Obama the N-word, and he sat with his arms crossed while angry residents at a meeting called for his resignation on Thursday, reports the Associated Press.

Wolfeboro Police Commissioner Robert Copeland, who's 82 and white, has acknowledged in an email to his fellow police commissioners he used the racial slur in describing Obama.

Town resident Jane O'Toole, who moved to Wolfeboro four months ago, said she overheard Copeland say the slur at a restaurant in March and wrote to the town manager about it. Copeland, in an email to her, acknowledged using the slur in referring to the president and said he will not apologize.

Copeland, who has declined to be interviewed, is one of three members of the police commission, which hires, fires and disciplines officers and sets their salaries. He ran unopposed for re-election and secured another three-year term on March 11.

I wish all media would make it clear this guy is NOT a LEO. Although a police commissioner he is not a sworn member.

Lenny @ 5/16/2014 2:33 PM

I doubt most on this site have any problem at all with this.

AJ @ 5/16/2014 3:05 PM

I find it hypocritical of the Hard Left Leaning LEOs and Former LEOs, that give Obama a Free Pass when it comes to saying he "Bowls Like the Special Olympics" etc. But some old Police Commissioner Robert Copeland can't use Politically Incorrect Speech? He broke NO LAWS! Might I remind LEOs Hate Speech is calling for Death of people. Like Radical Muslims do to Jews or Neo Nazis! This is just more Thought Police stuff. The Media, and Ruling Elite want to control what you think. And create a Mob Mentality! But the Media and Ruling Class are off the hook! There are double standards in this world. But some ignore them for Hero Worship of their "Dear Leader". Not to mention they look the other way when the Constitution, and Bill of Rights get trashed!
If we Persecute everyone for the words they speak, doesn't it look more and more like NAZI Germany? What people can't have Opinions anymore? Good, Bad or Ugly?

Longarm9 @ 5/16/2014 6:21 PM

Lenny, as usual you can be counted on to contribute a witless comment. Way to stay classy.

As for the Commish, he's an idiot too. Obama is a commie who's trying to run the US into the ground; the colour of his skin is totally irrelevant. Not to mention the fact that he's just as much white as he is black. Racism is ineffably stupid.

KevCopAz @ 5/17/2014 8:00 AM

He does have a right to express his opinion during his own private life if he is not threatening anyone. He has the constitutional right to be a bigot or use foul language. He does not have a right to use any such terms while doing official business. There is recourse, recall him since he is elected he can not be fired. I wonder if he were a black person who used "cracker" or "honky" or the like …would this even have been an issue?

Ima Leprechaun @ 5/17/2014 8:42 AM

You know, I really don't care what anybody says about politicians. All politicians are seduced by the dark side once they get any power. I fear the last one before this one the most because of what all they got away with and if this guy can use the N-word for the current President than I will continue to call "W"; S&*T For Brains which fits him perfectly. At least President Obama can speak clearly in complete sentences and that alone puts him light years ahead of President Bush.

Moving on...............

Capt. Crunch @ 5/17/2014 10:47 AM

Some people may not respect President Obama. but they should respect the office that he holds. As far as racism goes it only weakens our country.

Richard Hightower @ 5/19/2014 9:04 AM

If he's going to act like one... we might as well call him by the proper name.

Richard Hightower @ 5/19/2014 9:09 AM

I'm going to respectfully differ from Capt. Crunch on respecting the office. There is a quote from Lord Acton on this matter, "There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it." I find it completely appropriate that it is the same remarks in wich Acton says, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

The idea that we should "respect" offices and whomever my be sitting in them is akin to saying we have a King and whoever occupies that "seat" must therfore be shown respect -- even when they don't deserve it.

Capt. Crunch @ 5/19/2014 11:56 AM

@ Richard Hightower, very good and I also have a quote for you "Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others" Socrates

Ima Leprechaun @ 5/19/2014 11:01 PM

He resigned today, end of story.
