VIDEO: Florida Highway Patrol Trooper, 2 Others Killed in Collision

A nine-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol, a tow-truck driver and a pedestrian were killed in a crash Saturday on Interstate 75 near Ocala.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting trooper Chelsea Renee Richard, 30, stopped near mile marker 341 on southbound I-75 at 1:40 p.m. after two cars crashed in the area. Both cars were pulled off the highway onto the shoulder.

About 20 minutes later, Richard was talking with the tow-truck driver, John Duggan, 57, of Levy County, and the father of one of the drivers, when a pickup truck veered onto the shoulder striking all three. The other man killed is identified as George Robert Phillip, 52, of Ocala.

smh...lives lost due to some distraction or ailment. Curious to know what the pickup driver was doing at the time of impact. Texting, talking on phone, drinking or having a heart attack. Senseless deaths!!
