VIDEO: Footage of School Stabbing Suspect

It is now being reported that a knife-wielding student slashed at 20 people, mostly students, this morning at Pennsylvania's Franklin Regional High School.

Update:

The suspect reportedly slashed randomly at people with a knife, leaving 19 students and a school resource officer wounded.

According to WTAE-TV, the attacker was tackled by an assistant principal and the 60-year-old school resource officer, who is also a Murrysville police officer. One student pulled the fire alarm, which helped to evacuate the school and alert people that an incident was occurring.

According to NBC10.com, the school's principal was able to restrain the suspect, a 16-year-old sophomore, until police arrived, Murrysville Police Chief Thomas Seefeld said during a press conference.

The victims included 19 students and a school security guard, said Seefeld.

Patients were sent to Forbes Regional Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian. Seven of those patients are suffering from life-threatening injuries, although they are expected to survive their injuries.

The school is in Murrysville, Westmoreland County.

The suspect, also believed to be a student, is in custody. Initial reports were that three medical helicopters were called to the scene, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The stabbings reportedly occurred after 7 a.m. Parents in the district have been told to pick up their children, who were moved from the high school to the middle school.

It's not the weapon used but the person using it.

Thank you, Liberals, for turning schools into a defense-free, target-rich, inviting venue for terrorists and lunatics.

Some looney left member of Congress will propose legislation to ban "assault knives" based on how the knife looks e.g. evil black handle, serrated blade. One thing puzzles me though, why didn't the "No Weapons" sign prevent this?

Leonard Mather @ 4/9/2014 1:34 PM

We must give credit where credit is due. The Perp did NOT bring a gun to this Gun Free Zone. Now, the liberals must make an addendum to their sign to read: "And no knives either." Should future Perps use a bat or a hatchet, then the signs must have further addenda: "And no bats or hatchets."

Caution: Be aware of any kid ,walking into school with a box of rocks.

Retired Chief @ 4/9/2014 8:46 PM

If we allowed trained, qualified school employees to be armed and if we replaced the BS "Gun Free Zone" signs with ones indicating that school employees are armed to protect students the cowards who perpetrate these crimes would be less likely to do so.

The Shadow @ 4/10/2014 1:10 AM

Is there to be only one voice in America? Is that what we want? "Liberal media," "looney left member of Congress," "liberals," etc. Labels are easier than discussing facts. There are many conclusions in the few (repetitious) posts I read, but few facts. How long did the incident last? Was the SRO armed? Was the school designated a "gun free zone?" If not armed, would an armed officer have shortened the attack, or did he and the principal react just as quickly? Was there room to shoot the attacker without injuring someone else? Is it necessary to have trained, qualified and armed people at every school in the U.S.? How many per school? What's the cost?

I suggest we wait for the report on the incident and let's stop labeling those with whom we don't agree. We need a range of viewpoints in this free country!

Officer @ 4/10/2014 6:34 AM

As an SRO I find myself wondering some of the same questions as posted by The Shadow. I know that my campus does have a sign that states 'No Weapons', I am armed and the loss of life always outweighs the situation, what was the training of the officer or personel at the school. As far as I know none of us were there. We can put all of the proposed ideas in place and there will still be violence. At least with prior planning and preparation we can limit any tragedy or injuries.

Overall good job to the asst. principal and SRO for putting themselves in harms way to save the lives of other would be victims.

POINTMAN380 @ 4/10/2014 8:01 AM

If "GUN FREE ZONES" make these liberal anti gun politicians feel so safe then I challenge any of them to spend one night in San Quentin Prison. These people need to wake up.

Ima Leprechaun @ 4/13/2014 2:21 PM

So many bloggers with their own political agenda on here. STOP! We need to honor the officer wounded and the school staff for reacting in a proactive way to end this violence. Who ever pulled the fire alarm is incredibly shrewd for using that to evacuate the school and keep arriving kids out of the building, that one act alone may have saved dozens of kids.
