Senate Rejects Mumia Lawyer for DOJ Post

March 06, 2014  |

Bipartisan Senate opposition blocked swift confirmation Wednesday for President Barack Obama's choice to head the Justice Department's Civil Rights division, the emotional residue of the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner and the legal representation his killer received, WPVI-TV reports.

Obama swiftly condemned the vote. In a statement, he called it a "travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks against a good and qualified public servant."

Administration officials declined to say if they would seek a second vote in the hopes they could change the minds of a few Democrats, although Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is positioned to call for one.

The vote was a victory for Republicans and the National Fraternal Order of Police, who said Adegbile's connection with the legal case of Mumia Abu-Jamal disqualified him from holding high public office.

Shortly before the vote, Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., read from a letter written by Maureen Faulkner, the widow of the policeman Abu-Jamal was convicted of killing.

Great news. Its about time that a liberal lawyer had to suffer some consequences for their actions in defending the POS that killed that officer. Far too long have these libs done and said what they please without ramifications. Great news that some Democrats had the B---s to vote the right way instead of lock step with that clown Reed and the Obama justice department. Holder has been the worst Atty Gen EVER and ignores the laws that HE feels are wrong. Further his "justice" department has been investigating IRS for over a year without "any smidgin(Obama) of corruption being found. There is corruption all up and down this president's chain of command and its about time Democrats and Republicans voted the way they did Bi-Partisan. thanks Now we should call for Holders resignation, do i have to say "fast & furious:, voted fraud, IRS, etc etc….Holder should be in jail himself.

The National Fraternal Order of Police should be prepared to write to all Dems that if Obama tries to later make a recess appointment of this Mumia, ( 90% bet he will try that route later this year) that every Dem Senator will lose their re-election.

... a "travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks against a good and qualified public servant."

It appears to me the people find his previous acts inappropriate and not those of a good public servant, and made a decision. Who is the President to say the people's decision is a travesty? Isn't he supposed to be serving us as well. I guess having to follow the rules is something he can be forced to do, but being a strong and honest man is way out of reach.

What a p.o.s. and the nominee also. Way to go N.F.O.P. as well as the Republican party. You all did your job well. Obama is freakin unbelievable!!!

Capt. Crunch @ 3/7/2014 4:12 PM

Thank you N.F.O.P. I am glad that POS Adegbile, did not get the job. The only travesty here is Obama and his staff.

Greg @ 3/11/2014 4:10 AM

Racists hate it when good people say "No!"

As noted, Obama will just do a recess appointment of this guy...he knows best and we're just peasants.
