Georgia Officer Shot, Man Arrested, Two Detained

February 04, 2014  |

Cobb County police late Tuesday morning arrested a suspect in the early morning shooting of a fellow officer during a traffic stop near Marietta, Ga., reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The officer was shot about 2:30 a.m. when he stopped a blue Volvo in front of an office building on Powers Ferry Road between Windy Hill Road and I-285.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to Cobb police spokesman Mike Bowman.

The suspected gunman, James A. Phillips, 36, was released from state prison last October after being convicted of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and methamphetamine possession in Cherokee County, according to state Department of Corrections records.

Way to many traffic stops that are turning into Officer's being ambushed and/or shot at. Be safe out there Brothers/Sisters. Stagger your P.V. different, go up on a different side, approach at different angels, etc. You L.E.O's. know that, and how to do it. I'm just a little concerned for you all currently out there doing this tuff job. May you be safe.

Remember your training. Watch the hands, the body language shuffling in the car. If they don't obey commands stay back until they comply and be safe.
