De Blasio Drops NYPD Appeal of Stop-and-Frisk Ruling

January 30, 2014  |

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday that New York City had reached an agreement with civil rights lawyers who had challenged the Police Department’s stop-and-frisk practices, which would allow the sweeping reforms ordered by a federal judge last summer to be carried out, the New York Times reports.

Those changes, which included the appointment of a federal monitor, were blocked last fall after the Bloomberg administration appealed the judge’s rulings, which found that the city’s stop-and-frisk policies were unconstitutional and that the department had resorted to “a policy of indirect racial profiling.”

The judge, Shira A. Scheindlin of Federal District Court in Manhattan, had ruled that the policy resulted in “the disproportionate and discriminatory stopping of blacks and Hispanics in violation of the Equal Protection Clause.”

But on Thursday, Mayor de Blasio, seeking to fulfill a long-stated campaign pledge that helped to propel his landslide victory, said his administration had taken a major step toward resolving the polarizing dispute that for years had strained relations between the police and minorities.

All you New Yorkers who voted to put that socialist crank in charge of your city enjoy that soon to be rising crime rate. Looks like the wrong people are being handcuffed. I guess the new mayor would prefer NYC was more like Detroit or Chicago instead of being the very safe city it is today.

Crime will go up thanks to the libtard.

I love the assinine thinking that says, "Hmmm they're stopping mostly blacks and hispanics. They must be racist"

Do you think maybe they're stopping lots of blacks and hispanics because they're the ones more often a) living in high crime neighborhoods and b) making themselves look super sketchy and/or actually committing crimes and thus attracting the attention of police?

Serpico @ 2/1/2014 8:51 AM

DeBlasio is just doing it so his "wife and kids" won't be frisked. He's the "white sheep" of the family. I wonder how many "Hispanics" in NYC are Illegal Aliens? Most people who use illegals are like DeBlasio, rich and have them as Nannies or house keepers, so they don't pay "taxes". Funny for a dork who'll raise TAXES in NYC for Socialist/NWO goals. Bloomberg Part 2? If they went after Illegals the way they go after GUNS. This nation would be cleaned up from third-world parasites in a New York Minute!

They are going to let the savages run wild in my cit. All of the big classes from the NYPD has retired. 4000 in the last six months I would half pay with 12000 dollar annual xmas incentive for life. The Leeberals want to make my city into Detroit. It is a total travesty that this city is going into the toilet, and the criminals will be left alone.
