VIDEO: Police Monitoring for Death Threats Against Acquitted Former Cops

Anger and frustration continued to build a day after an Orange County jury acquitted two former police officers of beating a homeless man to death in a case that generated national debate, reports the L.A. Times.

Overnight, protesters swarmed the streets of Fullerton, Calif., taunting passing patrol cars and waving signs saying "No More Killer Cops" and "Change 4 Justice."

Police said they began monitoring social media sites after hearing that death threats may have been lodged against the two former patrol officers, who were hurried from the courtroom Monday after the verdicts were read.

"We understand there's a wide range of emotions," said Sgt. Jeff Stuart, spokesman for the Fullerton Police Department. "We respect people's right to express their opinion. We just ask they do so respectfully."

Ok I wasn't there, but by the looks of the video: an unarmed man pleading for his life with SIX ARMED officers right there some beating and some holding, it sure looks like they may have gotten caught up in "mob mentality" something we are supposed to protect against. How on earth could that man possibly be a threat to 6 armed officers? Only the likes of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, and that's only in the movies could possibly have been a lethal threat. If you get caught up in an adrenaline rush and subscribe to mob action then (especially when you are supposed to oppose it) you should "man up" and take the consequences. With examples like that out on the streets it sure won't make it easy for the LEO's who are doing there best to protect the public and have their respect. Often it is rather handy to have the public on your side, this sure won't help in that category at all. These officers did their department and their brothers in uniform a great disservice by that mistake and compounding that the ruling just magnified it tenfold. Ok sure he died of a heart condition but no one is going to agree that it's totally unrelated to the severe, cruel and TOTALLY UNWARRANTED senseless beating of a poor unarmed man. Sure it's easy to get caught up in the adrenaline fueled fury but calm minds MUST always prevail or we will be the enemy not the OFFICER FRIENDLY that some grew up with. So sad on too many fronts.

@ Yeti
Finally, a voice of sanity in law enforcement. Be prepared to be savagely insulted as almost all of the people on this site are expectedto be in lockstep and completely on the officer's side no matter the circumstances. At least there was video evidence of this beating, otherwise those two animals would still be prowling the streets. That's the kind of thing people don't forget.

Mike @ 1/15/2014 6:43 AM

Lenny….For the record I have never agreed with or disagreed with you on this issue. My issue is with you and the way you respond to these articles. If these officers were wrong, they should go down. However, you don’t care about silly things like facts. All you care about is bashing police officer, on a police site, solely for the purpose of getting a rise. Somehow you feel empowered by taking on law enforcement and at the same time claim to be one. You feed in the excitement of seeing law enforcement officers fall or fail. I have never once seen you post anything on the countless articles of all the good things officers do on a daily bases.

Mike @ 1/15/2014 6:43 AM

You Sir are a Tool not because you voice your opinion, but because of your motives. If you are such a self-proclaimed brilliant man and have such an issue with law enforcement, make it better. Write about the positive effects of law enforcement. Use your experience and help train younger officer. Work with Police magazine and write an article. Either way, stop posting your hateful, cop bashing crap, and let the courts figure out if these officers were right or wrong criminally or civilly. And in the end if you can’t stop, then don’t whine when officer respond by “savagely insulting” you.

Get em Mike, I concur.

Capt. Crunch @ 1/15/2014 10:01 AM

The reason and the only reason these people are protesting is because they want to cause a riot so they can get a free television and what ever else they can steal.

Hatred for GESTAPO @ 1/15/2014 10:08 AM

I just hope and pray they try this again and it turns out to be super large GANG BANGERS maybe Mexican Mafia armed to the teeth!!! Maybe time you SCUM get a good lesson from those who do not fear you??????

Capt. Crunch @ 1/15/2014 11:02 AM

@ Gestapo, no need to pray. God, is on the side of the police.

I watched the video twice. Never saw a man pleading for his life or six officers savagely beating him. I guess the jury saw the same video and hence the verdict. I guess you can see anything in the video that "you want to see" as they say. I remember reading about pepper spray killing people as well as Tasers kiling people who were being arrested. It was proven later that it was cardiac arrest from the drugs that they had used and not the Taser or pepper spray. This guy was on drugs and alcohol so it is not surprise. Opinions vary, but the court has spoken!

westcoastleo @ 1/15/2014 1:07 PM

This country needs all of it's law enforcement officers to walk off the job for about 2-3 weeks. Go home, don't come back and just walk away. Advise the media, news papers, AM radio fools like John and Ken. Break your oath for about 3 weeks. Let the gangsters, idiots and scum run wild. Rape, rob, kidnap etc. The public needs to see how it will be when we all as one unit walk away. I have enough guns and ammo to take care of myself and family. These others wont and I hope by god they feel what it is like when we walk away. To all of you who really think that we really put the uniform on each day just because we want to kill someone, beat someone you are dead wrong. Most coppers go on duty, handle calls for service and are PRO active looking for traffic violaters and bad guys. But if you (the public) want us to stop and stay home, we will. Let the fires begin... Thomas's father should have taken care of his son, but no, he did not. Now, after his death, he crys for justice.

westcoastleo @ 1/15/2014 1:19 PM

One more thing to you fellow humble fine LEO's.. On Thomas's father? He "Claimed" to be a police officer or "Retired" LEO when this thing broke open in July of 2011. Any of you know him out there in Orang county, Los Angeles county? On the 13th he said he taught force classes to Law Enforcement. I would really like to know his history with Law Enforcement or training. He really seems to be a lier to me or a washout, or a 5 year guy who sucked up a injury retirement. Please find out about this Imposter and type out your findings to us all..

Serpico @ 1/16/2014 3:39 PM

People who think bad cops in Fullerton makes all LEO's the Nazi Gastapo, are wrong. But it's also wrong to walk off the job, and blame ALL Citizens too! LEO's are not GODS, neither are regular people! We're all humans who make mistakes. Do I think the K Thomas case, leaves questions? Like could it have been handled better? Yes I do. It doesn't make me hate all blues. But it shouldn't give any LEO's excuses to hate non-LEO's either! Many LEO's know how to deal with Autism in adults and kids. Who knows if the Fullerton Police had a power trip or not? And if KT's dad is lying then the truth should be exposed too. But dealing with a homeless schizoid, is a different matter. Too bad disability friendly LEO's I know in MO, and Long Island weren't there, to help resolve the issue w/o loss of life. A lot of people are getting hot headed, and angry.. Kinda like me on the Subject of Illegal Aliens LOL!

Serpico @ 1/16/2014 4:00 PM

John and Ken on KFI hate George Zimmerman. I'm pro Zimmerman. Personally I like looking at an issue case-by-case. And not letting the Media dictate how to think. LEO's in the Rodney King case were railroaded. There are many parts where LEO's were hung to dry. The Truth goes both ways. If the Fullerton PD harbors corruption and criminal LEO's. Then men & women in blue need to stand with the public on the issue. People in LA will use any excuse to RIOT, regardless of the situation. As for the KT case, some people in LA on Both Sides, are being used to create False Flag for the SHIFT situation! Civilians and LE's with level heads, won't let riots happen. Just because I feel for KT, doesn't mean I want hell to break loose in LA. But having an itchy trigger finger, won't solve differences between LE and Non-LE people. Instead of level heads, we have another IF HAD A SON LIKE TRAYVON situation. There are cases on this sight, I agree with, and others I don't.
