Report: FBI Disrupts Mass Shootings with Mental Health Intervention
December 16, 2013
The FBI says it has helped to disrupt or prevent nearly 150 shootings and violent attacks this year, in part by steering potential gunmen toward mental health professionals, the Associated Press reports.
There have been hundreds of these disruptions since 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder recently told an audience of police chiefs, touting the behind-the-scenes work of a small FBI unit based out of Quantico, Va. In most cases, the FBI has helped potential offenders get access to mental health care.

Sorry Holder but I don't trust anything that comes out of your mouth. Are you desparately trying to kiss ass.

And how does Mr Holder verify these "facts"?????
He can't even tell us where any one of those firearms lost in "Fast And Furious" went, and we're supposed to believe that a group of FBI people, under his divine oversight of course, are preventing crimes before they can be committed.
I thought "The X Files" went off the air....

Too bad Eric Holder didn't get a "Mental Heath Intervention" when he sent those Guns down to Mexico. Maybe someone could have stopped him. Or what about Benghazi? How come TROOPS were sent away from aiding Assets on the ground? They could of sent a swing wing and been there in 15 min or less? Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods lost their lives. Some disobeyed unlawful Stand Down orders, and died "doing the right thing". This is Love, Honor and Respect. For others. These men and others valued Human Life, and the life of the other people assigned to the Benghazi safe-house. I've seen no proof Eric With-Holder has the same value for human beings. Unless they're Muslim Brotherhood terrorists. Who happen to Kill United States Citizens.

Ok, guys your missing the point.
Mental Health Intervention stopped shootings! While Eric Holder can go fly a kite, the study supports what we in mental health have been saying for years. Intervene and save a life.
In plain English… Get people help! If you don’t something bad will happen and it maybe more that a report you file!

Sorry for the two typo’s earlier its late here, but we need the public’s help in identifying potential problems early. One call or one person can make a difference in a kid’s life. While I’m not soft, I would rather talk it out than shoot it out!

I do not discount the value and importance of mental health interventions. However, given the "track record" of dishonesty and deception practiced by the AG I question the accuracy of his assertion. More to the point, how does the FBI, which is not a first responder agency like local law enforcement, even get involved in interventions like those claimed? Seems to me his claim is on a par with "if you like your insurance you can keep it".
Mike @ 12/17/2013 8:42 AM
Exactly what "Retired Chief" said!!
As a Police Officer I was a First Responder for over twenty three years.
I've filled out many Seventy Two Hour Commitment papers and in nearly every case the follow up exam by a competent Mental Health Provider failed to put the individual into the Mental Health System for further treatment. A Doctor told me that the fear of a lawsuit was the reason for not recommending further Mental Health treatment.
Mr Holders statement that crimes have been prevented by intervention by the FBI is is NOT a credible claim based on my experiences in dealing with people in need of Mental Health counseling.
It sounds like another Administration lie based on their imagined competency!!!

Too many nut cases are putting their asinine opinions and blather comments on here. They use every opportunity to explode with their political leanings and right-wingnut scream-fests. I think this site should take down the comment section altogether. We, the real cops, are offended.

By this way of thinking, every time I carry, I prevent dozens of homicides and armed robberies.
Dear Real Cop Cool Aid Carrier, Everything is connected. You would think that after 37 years of desk work you might see how electing Progressives gets Progressive Judges appointed to the Bench, gets Progressive interpretation to existing law, and begets more criminals on the streets.
There are none so ignorant as those who refuse to see. Your King has no clothes.

Dear 37 year Law Enforcement O,
I doubt that you have ANY time in Law enforcement.
Those of us who've done the job for a lifetime can easily spot a fake.
You fit the outline!
Maybe you should check back with your handlers at DU or KOS and see if they can suggest how you can improve your cover.
The indigent Liberal Cop disguise is a failure.
