Mo. Trooper's Vest Saves Him

September 23, 2013  |

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper survived a shot to the chest after his body armor absorbed a bank robber's round, reports KTVI.

The incident began at around 9:20 a.m. Friday when Warren Gladders, 64, walked into the First State Bank in Dutzow with a handgun and told tellers to give him the top layer of cash from their trays as well as the $50 and $100 bills in the vault.

The trooper spotted Gladders' vehicle and pulled him over on Highway F in St. Charles County just south of New Melle. Gladders opened fire on the trooper and struck him in the chest with one round. The trooper returned fire, striking the suspect.

Gladders remains hospitalized and faces numerous charges relating to the incident, reports KMOV.
