Holder: Trayvon Martin Killing 'Unnecessary'

The Department of Justice is considering bringing a federal civil rights prosecution of George Zimmerman following a jury's acquittal of him for murder charges.

Attorney General Eric Holder called the shooting of Trayvon Martin a "tragic, unnecessary shooting death" and said "we must not ... let this opportunity pass" in a speech to the Delta Sigma Theta sorority Monday in Washington, D.C., reports Fox News.

He followed that up Tuesday during a speech to the NAACP in Orlando by criticizing "Stand Your Ground" laws in about 30 states that allow people to defend themselves with deadly force in public rather than retreating. He said the laws undermine public safety.

The laws "sow dangerous conflict in our neighborhoods," Holder said, by "allowing and perhaps encouraging violent situations to escalate in public."

President Obama will not involve himself in the decision of whether to bring federal civil rights charges, White House Spokesman Jay Carney said Monday, reports the Boston Globe.

The DOJ faces an uphill battle in pursuing federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman because they would have to prove Zimmerman had a racial bias. Sanford Police Detective Chris Serino told FBI agents that he had "a little hero complex, but not as a racist."

So much to say.."We must not let this opportunity pass"...Fast & Furious (nothing to say), blank panthers racist hatred and stopping voters (case dropped) and his statements of "we won't be looking at cases of racism against whites.

Obama's not saying anything..."if I had a son he'd look like trayvon"..nope, not a word.

Zimmerman's white, no white-hispanic, well white-hispanic with some black relatives....let's just call him white, it's so much easier and fits the racial litmus test. Helped black kids, black date for prom, supported black church with members being attacked, fostered black kids in his own house even after program ended...guys a Klan wanna-be.

Holder...he's done us proud.

rob @ 7/16/2013 8:58 AM

I must have miss heard any response from the white house. I thought I heard "if I had a son he eould be like (that criminal) trayvon martin" and "we must respect the verdict but take a moment of silence to remember him". I really enjoyed hearing about remembering chris kyle or flying flags at half mast like they did for that drug addict.

Tim @ 7/16/2013 4:16 PM

Who is Holder to make any kind of statement like this? How about the rights of the all the people shot and murdered with the Fast and Furious guns? He needs to drop the holier than thou attitude. He has as much blood on his hands as ANYONE.

Rick @ 7/16/2013 4:16 PM

This wasn't about the 'castle doctrine' that the media portrayed as 'stand your ground', this was about a troubled kid that attacked a vigilant neighborhood watch person and during the attack, the kid used deadly force by slamming zimmerman's head into the cement. Under FL law, you may use deadly force to prevent a forcible felony. Assault with a deadly weapon is a forcible felony and zimmerman protected himself under the law.

chuck @ 7/16/2013 4:16 PM

Say something intelligent you stupid F*** Mr. Holder you need to leave office. Your an embarresment to all the actual good attorneys that are out there.

Joe Mulrooney @ 7/16/2013 4:18 PM

Why? The government did not go after OJ when he was acquitted. Let the family sue for wrongful death. That is what is appropriate. Our citizens have spoken. The federal government does not need to get into this. If the evidence said he is innocent, not hung jury, but not guilty, then let the civil suit begin.

Willie @ 7/16/2013 4:18 PM

This clown is a joke. He is going to decide on whether to pursue a civil case when he is the most racist, dishonest, joke of an Attorney General this country has ever seen. I don't care what color or creed you are, if you have a shred of intelligence, you should be able to see this dirty, lying political scum bag for what he is!

Bob@Az. @ 7/16/2013 4:24 PM

Another race playing pos. This thug and his butt-buddy barry should be charged with inciting public disorder and threatening an American citizen, which Mr.Zimmerman is and barry ain't. You want a race war eric? You'll be on the top of every LEO-not chiefs, real cops-list when that hits' the fan. You are one pathetic pos!! Blues, Stay Safe.

James @ 7/16/2013 4:25 PM

The little angel Trayvon was scolded by his friends that his picking fights was not a good thing, he also had assaulted others and was caught on two occasions with Burglary tools near the place where Zimmerman lived. Trayvon was also taking skittles back home presumably to make more Lean a drug made with Skittles, Arizona Water Melon ice tea and Robitussin and his autopsy report showed his liver suffered damage consistent with Lean (DXM) abuse. We also know he was selling dope on his facebook page and I copied that page because it was so obvious to anyone in or outside Law Enforcement what he was doing.

The media shows a 12 year old boy picture of Trayvon not the hulking giant of him in a picture that Fox news showed Yesterday towering over the person next to him.

It is high time that that Imbecile Eric Holder have the conversation with the protesters his dad had with him. You do NOT have a right to pummel a a human being to death or try so, because if you do, they have the RIGHT to defend their lives.

It's high time us adults say enough is enough and let's stop the crime by saying we will NO longer tolerate a thug mentality from people. Yes it's that simple.

Eddie @ 7/16/2013 4:29 PM

Wow he jumps right on this case bad he didn't find time to Jump on board with Fast and furious gunrunning which caused the deaths of dozens of mexicans and our border agent, Bengahzi, "workplace violence" at Ft Hood, the Boston bombers who fell off the radar after one of them returned to the US filled with terrorist hate and let's not forget the dozens of murders of young black youths committed by other blacks in the city of Chicago. But holder will cater to poverty pimps like Sharpton and Jackson and waste the time of the DOJ to go to bat for a thug named Trayvon

John J @ 7/16/2013 4:30 PM

Mr. Holder is nothing more than a racist, like every other person that has dark skin color who is prejudiced against anyone who does not have skin color that is of color. It is not the present white race that enslaved the African peoples in our past. Mr. Martin was a criminal and he attempted to take the life of an armed man. Mr. Martin lost the confrontation, hence why firearms should be carried by any citizen who wants to as given in our 2nd Amendment RIGHTS. Mr. Holder should be terminated immediately, he is a disgrace to the USA. Mr. Zimmerman should be given a citizens medal for valor for defending his neighborhood and stood the "post" and held his ground when confronted by a violent 17 year old intent on killing him. This is a travesty all way around, no good can come from it, except Mr. Zimmerman saved his own life. Where was Attorney General Holder or the FBI or local police when this was too late to call 911.
Sincerely, US Army Veteran and 22 year Career Law Enforcement Officer.

Tremayne Washington @ 7/16/2013 4:32 PM

Eric Holder is unredeemed scum. It would be exactly expected from Holder and the bigot in the White House to make a federal case out of this. For legal reasons it would be absolutely outrageous. But of course, the law has little import for the likes of our current administration.

BTW, can anyone answer a question I have: Why on Earth did Zimmerman only fire one round? He was legitimately in fear for his life; the 9mm is a comparitively puny stopper; and any competent training would have taught him to double-tap.

Gary @ 7/16/2013 4:35 PM

This is BS. Various groups demanded charges and a trial. They got both. The US Attorney should stand and defend the process or resign immediately. He is abusing the power of the DOJ.

Forusa @ 7/16/2013 4:53 PM

Martin was a racist. He used the word CRACKER. Zimmerman did not use any racial terms. Why do people say Martin was innocent? He was on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. Enough said. Zimmerman 1, Thug zero. Our high ranking people like the attorney general should not be allowed to speak to a one sided racist group like the naacp. Martin was a racist and Im sure the big fat black girl is to.

Trigger @ 7/16/2013 4:54 PM

What about the many children that have been murdered since this ordeal began. You never hear anything about those. What an idiot!!

jon @ 7/16/2013 4:55 PM

WHY DON'T YOU INVESTIGATE - FAST & FURIOUS..................................................................................................

Tom Ret @ 7/16/2013 4:58 PM

Most in law enforcement I suspect, if they look at this case impartially, recognize that it was a railroad job from the get go against Zimmerman. The prosecution violated the law or at least ethics by hiding evidence of Martin's past. Holder, as others have mentioned, has no credibility and should be forced to resign if not jailed. Sharpton and Jackson, professional race baiters, are largely responsible for race relations taking a major hit. I like most or all commenting here, am tired of their crap.

Dennis @ 7/16/2013 5:12 PM

I can not believe that this man holds the highest law enforcement office in this country. He is barely qualified to hold a janitor's position!! Even this idiot Holder should be able to see tat this incident has NOTHING to do with "Stand Your Ground", it is an open and shut case of good old fashioned, plain old self defense!!! He is right on one point. It was a unnecessary killing. The Martin thug could have just kept on going and not confronted Zimmerman. If h had not tried to prove what a bad ass he was, he would still be alive. Eric sicken me!!!

Smus @ 7/16/2013 5:14 PM

Typical. The dem appointee thinks he is smarter than the jury that heard the whole case and found him not guilty, making it justifiable homicide. Was it unnecessary for the man to have his nose broken, his head bounced off the asphalt, and be put through a politically motivated trial? They got their day in court, now leave him alone.

Chuck @ 7/16/2013 5:35 PM

eric holder is nothing more than a lap dog for this administration. He is as worthless as his master and almost as ignorant.

For someone who is supposed to uphold the law of the land, he is an embarrassment and should be prosecuted for his selective enforcement of laws that favor blacks and illegal aliens.

Gary @ 7/16/2013 5:38 PM

'Killing Unnecessary' of course if the criminal hadn't been out looking for homes to break into and score some drugs....he wouldn't have been killed.
The media plays it up when the story should be...Neighborhood watch member attacked by suspected criminal, suspect shot and killed in self defense.

halderon @ 7/16/2013 5:54 PM

The Constitution indicates that he was entitled to a trial by his peers, and they found him not guilty. I don't care what others think or if I have a different opinion. The Constitution says that Justice has prevailed, and that is the same Constitution that I took an oath to protect and I will!

Tm109 @ 7/16/2013 6:02 PM

Discraceful! Holder should stay out of this. Period! Jury spoke and Zimmerman is not guilty. Holder has his own problems, but I guess this is good attempt at distracting from what a miserable failure he is....

Capt. Crunch @ 7/16/2013 6:15 PM

Pres. Obama, Eric Holder, don't you idoits know that people who live in glass houses should not throw rocks. Trayvon, is a POS, just like the bunch of you are and this includes the NAACP, Jackson and Sharpen. You guys are a disgrace to the African American race. I hope Zimmermen sues you idiots and makes a lot of money.

Marshal @ 7/16/2013 6:23 PM

I had someone tell me that if you look at judicial watch there is an article in reference to the DOJ funding the protesters. I haven't looked at it yet but may be something to read.

midnighter @ 7/16/2013 6:52 PM

Martin was no angel, but I ain't buying Zimmerman's entire story. I don't think he is a racist, but I do think he was an untrained, wannabe LEO with a gun and hero complex. I think any kid of any race he stopped that night was potentially at the mercy of "Captain" Z. A guy so squared away he can't remember the street he's on when he's lived there for years, is neighborhood watch and there's only three streets in the damn neighborhood. I've met this guy's type on patrol plenty of times. He calls in the suspicious subject on a neighbor he doesn't recognize who has lived there for years. I refuse to take his version as fact simply because he asks me to. Dead men tell no tales and history is written by the victor. I am willing to bet money that gun came out at the beginning of the confrontation and that's why Martin fought so hard. He was fighting for his life and he lost. Zimmerman had no intent to kill at the start but he escalated the situation past his control and that wad the end result. He's dangerous not cause he's a racist but because he's an armed, untrained, wannabe hero who overestimates his own abilities. Blues stay safe. He's out there and you may look suspicious next week.

Tim @ 7/16/2013 8:12 PM

Oh Man, here goes Double Jeopardy, he will get a good Federal Lawyer and sue the DOJ over this better leave this alone and dismiss the suggestion and move forward, not worth the issue and trouble that will come off this mess.

Midnighter @ 7/16/2013 9:06 PM

This is a LEO site still correct? So Martin was a thug but Zimmerman was a vigilant neighborhood watch hero? Really?!? Same Zimmerman who had a long history of violence, including a restraining order for domestic violence, felony charges of resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer (the charge was pled down to a misdemeanor and then closed; Zimmerman's dad was a magistrate at the time). He was bounced from a job as a bouncer for being too aggressive with patrons, And a family member accused him of a pattern of sexual molestation. This is the guy patrolling the neighborhood armed with a gun.

I agree the Feds should stay out of this. Let a civil suit deal with it. A jury has spoken and we should respect that. But where I come from anyone who assaults police and resists arrest is a POS. Martin was no angel, but Zimmerman was no hero. He'd been trouble before

Sgtmac @ 7/16/2013 10:09 PM

Midnighter, I think about 3/4 of what you just wrote is flat out slanderous fabrication, and the rest is just idiotic fantasy. You're a clown who doesn't have the slightest clue about the facts of this case and one idiot like you is more dangerous than 100 Zimmermans.

Motor jock @ 7/16/2013 10:14 PM

Holder should be the one who should be prosecuted. He sold guns to terrorists, hid facts and now cries for justice after a jury of his peers found Zimmerman not guilty and no indication of anything racial. He should be ashamed of himself. Is he more worried about covering his ass as he ha done in the past. He should have been fired after the last incident with the selling of the guns to a foreign terrorist group. Is Obama covering his ass. One has to wonder, two peas in the same pod.

Midnighter @ 7/16/2013 10:58 PM

Sgtmac, I am going to assume you aren't law enforcement. Even on the Internet where fake thugs and phony tough guys dwell, I doubt an Leo would disrespect another Leo because they disagree. You go ahead and side with Zimmerman all you want. That's your right. Just as its my right to not buy what the bull$h!t story he's selling. That's my opinion to which I'm entitled. I never said my thoughts were fact. I just don't buy his story and offered a different theory of what happened since his makes no sense to me. You on the other hand seem to have bought it whole heatedly. Good for you. I Am not in the habit of believing every piece of garbage that comes out of a former suspects mouth. Especially in a homicide case where his story is the only one being told. But then again, i didn't believe Casey Anthony's BS story or OJ Simpson's BS story either. Color me cynical. But I'd rather be the cynical clown then the naive jackass.

plato's playdough @ 7/17/2013 3:06 AM

I found this 35min video on Youtube at - posted by Stefan Molyneux - and I felt that his facts and eloquent presentation of his material warrant consideration. The facts presented were, for the most part, never known to me, & certainly were never presented by major media. If you are willing to take the time to view his presentation, I imagine it will be very clear why this case would never have been prosecuted, if it had not begun by Al Sharpton grandstanding, and aided by dis-information by major media. I am convinced that major broadcast media is nothing more than a PROPAGANDA outlet. But to really get a grasp of the forces involved here, you must educate yourself on Black Liberation Theology & Farrakhan's Church of Islam. This is the paradigm advocated by Rev Jeremiah Wright, of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Obama is said to have attended for 20 yrs. Here is a link_ - ask yourself who is really stirring up racism.

William Cole @ 7/17/2013 4:33 AM

It has been obvious for many years now that there are many people in the civil rights arena whose job depends on keeping things stirred up. When our country has a president who began his political career as a community activist what do you expect. Well educated people (regardless of race) can see obama's administration for what it is; unprofessional, unethical and criminal. obama should have been impeached for the things he has done to our country and holder should have been fired and prosecuted.

Robert @ 7/17/2013 5:34 AM

Holder an idiot!!! Plain and simple!!!

Getum @ 7/17/2013 6:00 AM

Screw Holder, Agent Terry was a killing that was avoidable from the start!!!! Fast & Furious!!!! I see no riots/mobs over this issue this stupid F&*K caused!!!!! I forgot, Agent Terry was white.....

NJmotorcop @ 7/17/2013 6:01 AM

Another America-hating known criminal, subversive, racist, and terrorist telling us he knows better than the jury! Now he's taking steps to ensure more rioting to appease the human scum that constantly demands the blood of the innocents be sacrificed to further their own thug lifestyles.
Can you say "Conspiracy"?
Can you say "Official Misconduct"?
This is what happens when you let a subversive foreigner into the White House!

Dissapointed @ 7/17/2013 6:07 AM

I am embarrassed if some of the people posting on this article actually work in law enforcement. The ignorant, racist comments are unbelievable.

Zimmerman had 2 prior violent arrests, including ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER, had a concealed handgun and mixed martial art training, disobeyed directions of the police dispatcher, and clearly profiled an unarmed teenager at 7pm in the evening. He used what he thought was police jargon in this interviews, and carefully chose his words to fall under Stand Your Ground. He was a wannabe cop with a gun with no safety. The Stand your Ground law forced the police to initially let him go, and ultimately according to the juror interviews on Anderson Cooper, was a substantial factor, if not the main factor, why they found him not guilty. I do not understand how anyone in law enforcement would want a yahoo like Zimmerman walking around their communities.

Jelly @ 7/17/2013 6:16 AM

What a shame. We live in the greatest country in the world. There is no reason as citizens of this country should we allow our government official, from the president all the way down to the prosecutors in the Zimmerman trial to tear us apart as a nation. Let’s not fall into a political trap as they all have. This current government, on both sides of the aisle, is ripping us apart like never before and we are like sheep following them off a cliff. I have never seen this country so divided in my life. Let’s stop focusing on race and put the focus on the actions of individuals where it should be. We are, as a nation, so much better than this. Why have we given a few “talking heads” in this country so much power? Politicians and talking heads are stirring the pot for votes, power and notoriety and the media is stirring it for profit and for some reason we, as citizens, simply follow behind.

Jelly @ 7/17/2013 6:16 AM

Try and remember what a great feeling it was to be an American the days following 9/11. The pride we shared. The fact we all came together, regardless of race, and helped each other. Remember the American flags being displayed on everyone’s home and on highway overpasses. Let’s try and remember that we all are Americans first and then if an individual decides to commit a crime based on race, he by himself should be held accountable, not the race. The political platform Obama ran for office on was Change, Hope and Forward. It is time that the people of this country realize that these ideologies do not start or end with the government, but with the people. If we continue down this path of hatred we are going to be left with Changes for the worse, No hope as a nation and backwards movement. E pluribus unum “out of many, one”.

NJmotorcop @ 7/17/2013 6:20 AM

Midnighter - Sgtmac is right. How is it that YOU have all this insider knowlege about Zimmerman's past when none of us have heard any of it before? The media has gone to great lengths to hide all the bad stuff about Martin (there is tons of it) and expose all the bad stuff about Zimmerman (less bad stuff in his background than most of the cops I've worked with) yet you're the only one who's "heard" all this? And you call him a "wannabe LEO"? Well for a "wannabe" he did very well. He kept a dangerous suspect under observation, called for back-up, and didn't act until he was attacked and had no choice but to defend himself against a deadly force attack. I'm willing to bet that an armchair quarterback like you couldn't possibly do as well as he did. I think the only wannabe here is you!

george @ 7/17/2013 6:25 AM

The Racist are out in full force on this page, history truly repeat themselves, yoou idiots want to keep all of the jobs, limit eduaction for others, racially and criminally profile, you want the right to call them the N word, put them all in jail and kill thier unarmed children. Then get mad if they try to stop you.

NJmotorcop @ 7/17/2013 6:29 AM

Joe Mulrooney - "Let the family sue for wrongful death. That is what is appropriate. "

How is it appropriate to sue a crime victim for defending himself against the criminal thug who tried to kill him?

Bill Connell @ 7/17/2013 6:58 AM

Okay let me get this right, President Obama is not going to involve himself ..."if I had a son he'd look like trayvon"..... really ...... First of when you made that statement you sir took a side. You didn't wait for a jury to decide after hearing ALL THE EVIDENCE in the case. You took a page out of Joe Biden's play book go, ready, set. As for Eric Holder and everyone else going off on the subject can I just tell you a jury of his peers found him NOT GUILTY .... HELLO... the jury was even instructed on lesser offenses. Did Zimmerman make mistakes yes, could he have avoided the encounter ... probably but worse than that a 17 year old kid is dead, a mother and father lost thier child. Was Trayvon the perfect teen that main stream media wants us to see ..... No. So Mr. Holder wants to sue Zimmerman, go ahead but I guess every time a citizen defends themself you will come after them also .... or will there be other factors such as race or background? Holder and Obama want a pair.

dissapointed @ 7/17/2013 7:09 AM

NJmotorcop, there is NO WAY you are an actual cop. Stop posting on here pretending you are.

Augie M. @ 7/17/2013 7:10 AM

The Obama/Holder regime has set race relations in our country back nearly 50 years with their militant leftist agenda.
God bless us all. Stay safe out there.

Tom Verburg @ 7/17/2013 7:14 AM

Too bad that politics is what our AG is motivated by, and not actual violations of federal laws. What is the "opportunity" that that we must not let pass ?

Bill @ 7/17/2013 8:15 AM

Why is he even making a comment on an on-going investigation? Law Enforcement 101 ?

Tom Ret @ 7/17/2013 8:43 AM

Midnighter-yes, Zimmerman was not perfect by a long shot but did you listen to the trial? I normally have little empathy for defense attorneys or their scum bag clients after serving a career in law enforcement. However, in this case, it was obvious or should have been to anyone who was paying attention other than maybe george or disappointed on this forum, that there was a concerted effort to convict Zimmerman in an underhanded and unethical way. From taking his comments out of context to hiding exculpatory evidence this has been a politically motived railroad job from the get go. Maybe that doesn't bother you as it does me. I personally am tired of those who call others racist because they don't side with the black Trayvon Martin in this case or morons like george who go on some unintelligible rant about taking all the jobs and killing unarmed black kids etc. Cops have a right to their opinion but the administrator of this forum needs to weed out the non law enforcement element that comes on here on occasion to spew their nonsense.

Tim @ 7/17/2013 9:29 AM

When is Eric Holder going to be held accountable for the death of the border patrol agent his fast and furious screw up caused. Anything to take focus off of him and Obama

tedb @ 7/17/2013 9:45 AM

Tom (Ret): You said it all. While I agree with "Midnighter" that Z is a cop wannabe that isn't good enough to make the grade, even by current entrance standards, the fact remains that such an attitude is not illegal. For those who want to see Holder's one-sided view, Google the name "Antonio West", who was a baby of mixed race murdered in Brunswick, Georgia by two black teen-age thugs last year. You don't see any riots or Holder or the racist Sharpton staging protests in his behalf.

Ray @ 7/17/2013 10:09 AM

Holder does not instill much confidence in me as the nations highest law enforcement officer. Is he not aware that the FBI has already conducted a complete investigation into this incident that resulted in a finding that this WAS NOT A HATE CRIME. Now Holder says something so stupid about possibly charging Zimmerman. Let all these race baiters have their say and eventually the wind will go out of their sails and this will all be put on the backburner. The media is trying to stir the pot by giving credence to statements to many uninformed people about our justice system. If there are charges brought against Zimmerman by our government, then I have to believe that the FBI will have lost total credibility. How will that be good for law enforcement?

tony @ 7/17/2013 10:25 AM

we are witnessing the most corrupt government the usa has ever experienced. obama and his gang are systematically destroying this once great nation, congress is allowing it to happen, the supreme court lost their balls, 97% of the AA's in this country voted for the handout socialist administration along with 100% of the idiots in this country, and we wonder why they show no respect for the law. they don't pay their taxes (treasury sec) and they do not accept responsibility for their actions. bad times are coming i retired from the army and spent the rest of my life as a peace officer

tony @ 7/17/2013 11:02 AM

this is not the first time. under clinton the serial sex offender he had the feds file charges after a state jury in californicate acquitted the officers in the rodney king arrest. as usual, the blacks rioted etc etc.

Tom Ret @ 7/17/2013 12:26 PM

Any bets whether Holder in his speech to the NAACP will mention the fact that approx. 94% of blacks killed each year are killed by other blacks?

pup @ 7/17/2013 12:41 PM

I agree with Tony. It's a shame what our country has come too. The fact people (Blacks) don't mind their own business, and take to the streets to riot and burn places down is senseless. The trail was in FL. and for the Blacks to riot in LA and other cities, is a cause for other races to hate Blacks. The jury made a judgement call. Those families should be the only folks to deal with the call. Why in the hell do outsiders need to riot? Why do the Blacks blame LE? Why do they say they're going to kill cops? Why is the President and other VIP's commenting on the verdict, when they don't have all the facts? People fail to see the Blacks are the biggest racists, not whites or hispanics? To everyone, stop rioting, tend to your families and worry about your love ones....

Ima Leprechaun @ 7/17/2013 12:56 PM

In all fairness to Mr Zimmerman he did exactly what the "stand your ground" law said he can do. In Florida that law says that you can kill anyone that you feel threatened by, including police officers. It's Florida Law. The example given by Florida when this law was enacted is as follows: If you are walking on a sidewalk in public and you are 5'4" 120 pounds and a male 6'4'' 300 pounds is coming at you and you feel threatened by him even though he is not openly threatening you in any manner you are allowed by Florida Law to kill him. It's a very simple law. Zimmerman was improperly charged because his only crime was drunk driving, being armed while drunk and firing a gun within city limits while drunk. He was never charged with any of those crimes for which he is guilty. I cannot help it Sanford Police Department are racists but being a racist in Florida is not illegal but it is encouraged.

Ima Leprechaun @ 7/17/2013 1:16 PM

Not all Sanford PD is racist, there was one supervisor at the scene that tried to do the right thing but he was ordered by his Chief to look the other way and not investigate anything. You have to follow orders especially from the Chief.

westcoastleo @ 7/17/2013 3:11 PM

Mr Holder your are wrong. When your federal coppers bust into homes and order us to do things that we do not really want to do we follow the law and abide by it. So, Mr Holder, the stand your ground law is in effect and you will follow it. Just because YOU don't like the out come of this ruling and You don't like the law, don't tell us it's wrong. Further more, anytime a life is taken in a shooting or a fight, it seems unnecessary but when you are defending yourself, IT IS NECESSARY. You, Mr. Holder work for us. Just like your boss. And, you both should be fired.

LASD Supervisor

midnighter @ 7/19/2013 12:41 PM

@ TomRet - I agree. The Feds should not be looking into this case. And there were some shady dealings by the prosecution in an effort to get a guilty verdict in this case. I was taught by my FTO years ago that we (the law) play by the rules. The game is the game and what separates us from "them" is that we play by the rules. Always. We don't bend or break to get a conviction. People would be better served if they invested their time in trying to change or modify the stand your ground law. As it is currently written, IMO, it is inadequate. I understand why the law was enacted and I believe people have a right to stand their ground when their lives or safety is openly threatened. But some of these recent shootings aren't reasonable at all. The one captured on video in WI is 1st degree murder plain and simple. The one in Jacksonville is 2nd degree at the very least. Killing a kid because he wouldn't turn down the radio? How long before someone kills a cop and tries to claim stand your ground? "I was in fear for my life because cops harass and beat people all the time. I thought they were going to kill me." You think these sovereign citizens and militias and gangs aren't seeing this? We need to narrow the scope of what is considered reasonable.

And a side note on rioting...blacks don't riot. People of all races have rioted. I'm black and among my many friends and family I don't know anyone who condones or endorses rioting. The same way that I don't consider all muslims to be terrorists. All whites to serial killers or all latinos to be in a cartel. Its offensive when you say the blacks are rioting. The same way I am offended when people say cops are racist. We are not. A few do not speak for the whole. I'm disappointed this even needs to be said.

Holder won't mention black on black crime. I used to be a member of the NAACP. (Attacking posts to follow I know.) When I resigned my membership on their website I had to list a reason why. I typed a long, eloquent (IMO) letter stating that as a black officer I was tired of seeing crime scenes with victims and families of black on black violence. No marches or protests, no public media outcry. No Sharpton or Jackson in sight when for a black victim when the suspect was black. But if the cops shoot a minority who did everything he could to ensure he got shot, well they open the gates of hell. I also inquired as to why there is no support of law enforcement. I asked "Is not alw enforcement a noble proffession that all people, including our minority children, should aspire to become?" My question is then why not public outcry when an officer is assaulted or murdered and the neighborhood hides him? A cops funeral is packed with people and dignitaries from all over. But I never see the NAACP or ACLU present to honor someone who gave his life protecting and serving our community. If I ever get a response to any of my questions...even if they tell me to f*ck off, I'll let you know. That was 10 years ago.

the media has orchestrated this entire case of misinformation and its sad that the president and Holder have decided to get involved, it shows again how limited they are in intelligence. The jury has spoken. This is only a government agenda to control your rights. Trust the government for your protection...good luck

"NJmotorcop, there is NO WAY you are an actual cop. Stop posting on here pretending you are. "

Another lie from "disappointed". Just about what we expect from people like you - making ridiculous statements without any evidence to even suggest, much less prove, your conclusion.
