NYPD Cops Fight Racial Profiling Bill

New York City police unions are lining up to blast a bill they say would handcuff them from doing their job.

"The community should be outraged that this legislation is out there," Roy Richter of the Captains Endowment Association said Wednesday.

Richter is shown in a provocative ad that features police brass wearing a blindfold.

It's a campaign to defeat a bill that would expand the ban against racial profiling to include profiling by "color, age, citizenship status, gender, sexual orientation or housing status."

How can there be any way these people can be that stupid??? They may as well just come forth and fire all law enforcement personnel and let the criminals take control. Let the people die in the streets and then they will all be happy. What kind of world are we living in?

Capt. Crunch @ 6/20/2013 7:11 PM

Ok I see where this is going. If your a New York police officer and you want to keep your job then I guess the only arrest safe for you to make is one from a citizen, and if the arrest is on a minority you just blame the citizen and then go back to the coffee shop and take 6 hours to finish the report.

All this political cowardice is destroying our country! Obviously the council is trying to curry favor and votes from every off-the-wall group they can imagine. They really do not care about the safety of the general public or the officers charged with trying to maintain it. Those dingbats on the council don't have to work the streets and they could not care less about those that do.

Morning Eagle @ 6/20/2013 8:15 PM

PS: Are the council members too brain dead to see what a pandora's box of law suits this would open up. Practically everyone that got arrested would be crying discrimination based on anything they could imagine.

SecondCityCop @ 6/20/2013 8:48 PM

We've had a similar policy here in Chicago for years- it's no big deal. Relax.

Retired NY Boss @ 6/20/2013 9:38 PM

Bloomberg will Veto, Quinn will get it over ridden so she can be the next Mayor. It will be back to the 80's for NY. So glad I'm gone!

wvscorchy @ 6/21/2013 2:27 AM

Is anyone else old enough to remember when "profililing" used to be called "good observational skills"? and looking for someone who "fit the description" of a possible criminal suspect meant you were "doing your job"? Crazy world! ... and more dangerous for LEOs (and law- abiding citizens), everyday

Corporal T.E./N.S.M. @ 6/21/2013 2:47 AM

Tell the African-American community to first stop profiling the police as "Crackers", "Pigs", and the ever popular "Da Man".

These thugs act as if it was a generation ago when only Whites were allowed to serve as LEOs.

Smoger @ 6/21/2013 4:22 AM

Isn't it already against the law to do such things? 1983 OCR violations are always investigated and have been in ace since 1871. Why create more laws?

Uniformer @ 6/21/2013 9:08 AM

New York City - run by Democrats
New York state - run by Democrats
My LEO observational skills tell me maybe there's a pattern here, but that would be profiling and I better not do that in NY, IL, or CA, where the socialists run the state and the major cities.

TBOW426 @ 6/21/2013 9:24 AM

Was watching Bill O'Reilly last night and this potential bill was discussed. It was said the Captain's Union was misrepresenting what was actually said in the bill so I looked it up and read the entire thing. Hate to say the libs on the city council are right, BUT THEY ARE. The bill does not in any way prohibit broadcasting a description such as...H/M 5-10 - 6-02 / 170lbs / red shirt and blue jeans and it does not prohibit stopping and briefly detaining someone that matches that description. It does have a lot of left nut crap in it and Bloom "idiot" berg is playing the tough on crime angle.

Hal Adleman @ 6/21/2013 10:07 AM

The Obama administration has "blindfolded" federal law enforcement by ordering the removal of all references to "Muslim" and "Islam" and "Islamic" from terrorist training materials. It has given similar orders not to "profile" airplane passengers; in other words an elderly white woman acting normally is to be treated the same as a young, foreign-born Muslim who is acting oddly.

TC @ 6/21/2013 8:22 PM

Have you guys really lost sight of the point. Racial profiling does nothing but promote bigotry. I never went in the door thinking "oh oh, black guy, gotta watch him." Or, "olive skin, must be a terrorist." I was taught to assess the situation based on the call and what I see. I learned to see beyond skin color. Besides, how much good is racial profiling gonna do when the terrorists are turning out to be someone like Timothy McVeigh. Put away your crosses and torches and act like the professional police officers you claim to be.

Lt. Will Cole @ 6/22/2013 8:11 PM

I'm amazed at the post by the Chicago cop. I'm trying to remember which city led the nation in murders this past year, oh now I remember.

I guess common sense and equal enforcement of the law is fading everywhere.

if the liberals don't wake up we are all going to be looking for a safe place and something to eat. This country can keep going the direction we are going.

Eddie @ 6/24/2013 1:34 PM

This is what The Clueless lemmings that support Bloomberg, Obama, and Hillary want.

plato's playdough @ 7/1/2013 3:03 AM

We will need to step up the body implant I.D.chip program, hope there's a budget for the requisite chip readers. This'll prolly happen in the ObamaCare plan as you get your healthcare 'cos nobody reads the EULA agreement anymore. However, the timegap for the transition may be PROBLEMATIC..heheheh.
