Sheriff Joe Suspends Immigration Enforcement

An Arizona sheriff who led the way for local police across the country to take up immigration enforcement is reconsidering his crackdowns—and other law enforcement officials who followed his lead are expected to eventually back away, too.

Joe Arpaio, the sheriff for Maricopa County and metropolitan Phoenix, has temporarily suspended all his immigration efforts after a federal judge concluded two weeks ago that the sheriff's office had racially profiled Latinos in its patrols, Arpaio spokesman Brandon Jones told the Associated Press.

Arpaio critics, including the federal government, are gaining ground in their fight to get the sheriff out of immigration enforcement. Even before the ruling, Washington had stripped Arpaio's office of its special federal immigration arrest powers and started to phase out the program across the country amid complaints that it led to abuses by local officers.

Soooo, Sheriff Arpaio should only enforce certain laws? Those that don't offend anyone? Will the DOJ, an oxymoron in it's self, distribute the approved laws? Do the laws change from state to state? Will we have to start watching our Northern border for those van loads of Canadians being smuggled in, with the illegal drugs that are manufactured in Canada? Or will that cease also when the Canadians vow to vote Democratic? Will we see signs in our north border states warning against doing any camping or fishing due to the high volume of illegals that are trashing the area and killing American farmers/ranchers, as we have here in Arizona? Oh, thats right, all these crimes are being committed by those tall, blonde Swedes. Blues, Stay Safe.

Its about time the big baby Arpaio followed the Law. Poor [email protected] those drugs in Canada are manufactured here in the USA bought cheaper by the Canadian Government and sold cheaper to bus loads of elderly Americans so they can afford their necessary medication which is 50 times higher costing in the USA. And Canadians are already being charged a surcharge to enter the USA per immigration reform. And all traffic and criminal laws are completely different from state to state thats why those laws are so screwed up. There are no standardized laws anywhere in the USA. We need to sell Arizona back to Mexico and get our dollar back.

ima, Hmm, "big baby" Arpaio? I wonder how he keeps getting re-elected year after year in a county with a large Hispanic population. Maybe because the people here in this portion of America believe in upholding the Law, as defined by the Arizona statutes, not by some smoke & mirrors appointee three thousand miles away. And you may want to check your pricing on drugs from our neighbors to the north, "50 times higher"?. I think not. Go whine on some liberal site. Blues, Stay safe.

OK, I have been profiled before, even picked up and interrogated from a description of a "young black 'light-skinned' male" LOL The victims positively identified me from my pictures! But fortunately I was overseas during the time in question! (whew) So I understand about profiling... But this makes NO SENSE, they are patrolling a border with Mexico... of course they would profile Latinos. This isn't racial... it's common sense! If I was a border patrol office driving next to the border with Canada and I saw a guy drinking a Molson beer, whistling the Canadian National Anthem and carrying a hockey stick with the words... "Go Canucks eh!" Should I worry that I might be offending him by profiling him as a Canadian?!? Come on!!

The DOJ is far reaching, Sheriff Joe locked up way too many future voters for the regime. I wish I could move to AZ. to vote for Sheriff Joe!!!!!!!! I hope he keeps fighting the fight!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been looking in my Code books all morning long and can’t find the section that covers the detain/arrest procedures explaining that, Law Enforcement may detain/arrest someone unless it is politically incorrect. OH never mind, here it is under the voting laws. “Whenever necessary to potentially sway a group of individuals to vote a certain way, the judicial system, shall turn a blind eye to enforceable laws, to ensure the appointment of certain individuals into public office”. Ok, now I understand why Sherriff Arpaio is always in the news. I mean come on Joe give the politicians a break. You’re really getting in the way by trying to do the right thing! Why don’t they cover this code section in the academy?

Capt. Crunch @ 6/11/2013 10:32 AM

Maybe if the government would keep politics out of the Border Patrol, and let them do their job, Sheriff Arpaio, would not be on the "hot seat" now. It all starts at the border.

Wow I am watching this very second on MILITARY channel Border Patrol hauling more bails of WEED, COCAINE & HEROIN ,,,you name it and all illegals..what next the Primary on a ?????? with some ARAB illegals >>>ok you got the point huh?
Arpaio is doing exactly what he was elected for HIS JOB and unfortunately you have a GOVT sold out to god knows who in MEXICO and US corporations suing migrants for position real AMERICANS should have!

David McDonald @ 6/13/2013 9:41 AM

Maybe we should quit passing laws as it seems certain groups do not want the law enforcement officers to enforce the laws. As to profiling, in most cases the officer does not know what nationality decendent the person driving is except upon approching the vehicle due to the shading of the windows, even if the windows meet standards (being able to read a newspaper through the glass). To me, Sheriff Joe is correct in enforcing all laws currently on the books!!
