Ariz. Sheriff Joe Arpaio To Appeal Racial Profiling Ruling

Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge's ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people.

Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio's critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos in relying on race in their immigration enforcement.

Snow, whose ruling came more than eight months after a seven-day, non-jury trial, also ruled Arpaio's deputies unreasonably prolonged the detentions of people who were pulled over.

I'm retired, not from Arizona, and donated $ to his campaign for the attempt to recall him. The man does his job well, and this is what the Feds. do. Not suprised by the Feds. Keep the chin up Sheriff.

When you hear hoofbeats, you don't look around for a zebra.

When you look for illegals, you don't look for Amish in a buggy.

A.G. Holder's people hate it when future Democrat voters are hassled...and everything against Sheriff Arpaio is purely leftist political attacks.

David Clare @ 5/28/2013 4:54 AM

If the feds would close the border it wouldn't be necessary for us to do their jobs. People seem to forget this is not an argument over immigration, but one of ILLEGAL immigration. Keep up the good work AZ. I wish the State of Texas would follow suit.

Fed Cop @ 5/28/2013 6:22 AM

Holder has been after Sheriff Joe for years. He was after him before he became AG. When someone is caught in you jurisdiction, travelling north from the border, with all your possessions in a plastic bag, and as soon as you see the policia, you run. Si, I call that profiling
In a take off from Apocalypse Now, "If they run, they're an illegal. If they stand still, they're a well deciplined illegal"

donut_plz @ 5/28/2013 6:36 AM

This is wrong. Profiling? He is basically patrolling the mexican border in his county. That would mean hispanics are the ones crossing illegally. Thats not profiling. Thats no different than working compton and arresting a black person or working beverly hills and arresting a white person and then you could arrest either in any of those places, wouldnt change anything.

A criminal is a criminal. Skin color is not the issue.

Would this same fed admin say he was profiling if he was on the Canadian border stopping illegal canucks from crossing? I doubt it.

I agree, this is about votes, ILLEGAL votes for democrats.

Sheriff Joe has treated everyone equally, if you broke the law you handled as a criminal. If you dont break the law you are treated like a citizen.

Capt. Crunch @ 5/28/2013 9:51 AM

Hey Donut, Sheriff Arpaio, is doing his job well. The Feds should stay out of his business. The democrats are not the only party pissed at him the republicans are too because they want cheap labor. Most of the Mexicans coming over here are good people and the reason they come here is because the Mexican government is corupt. The real suspect here is the Mexican government.

Bill @ 5/28/2013 2:54 PM

The stupidity and lack of common sense with these liberals never ceases to amaze me. The man is looking for ILLEGAL MEXICANS. Who is he supposed to profile, blond haired Swede's?

Bob@Az. @ 5/29/2013 2:34 PM

Hang on Joe, its' circus time again! Why is it that the feds want to harass anyone that's doing their job, enforcing the law and stopping crime? Is it jealousy? Is it fear that one of their future voters will be stopped? Take a look at the percentage of crime committed against Hispanics by Hispanics. We just lost a young Phoenix Police Officer and father to an illegal pos with a history of drug use who had been busted before and was still living here. I'm so damn tired of the "pity me" crap from "Activist Groups". Don't want the heat? Clean up your fellow countrymens act, don't whine when they get nailed for breaking the law. Blues, Stay Safe.

plato's playdough @ 5/30/2013 2:52 AM

Perhaps it is about more than just wanting illegals as voters. Could Holder have any affiliations who's business interests profit from continued illegal presence? Or is it that he considers offenders and repeat offenders as the legal system's best customers, digging even deeper into state coffers? From that perspective, he may even view the cost of L.E. as "competition."
