West Valley City (Utah) Police shot and wounded a registered sex offender in the front lobby of the station after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers.

James Ramsey Kammeyer, 39, walked into the front lobby of the police station at 8:30 a.m. and asked the officer working at the front desk to come out from behind his enclosed, secure area to talk to him, reports the Deseret News.

The officer and records clerk called several veteran officers in the station for assistance. Those officers arrived to talk with Kammeyer, who pointed a gun at them.

In December, Kammeyer had cut his wrists and "told officers at that time that he wanted to die suicide by cop," Sgt. Jason Hauer told the news outlet.
