A Sedgwick County (Kan.) Sheriff's deputy is being lauded as a hero after he pulled a man out of a truck moments before it was hit by a train.

Deputy John Scaglione responded to an accident scene Friday morning after a cement truck flipped onto railroad tracks at 47th South and K-15, reports KSN.

As he approached the truck, he realized a driver was trapped. Video from the deputy's patrol car shows the crossing gate's arms coming down and the red warning light begin flashing.

The deputy can be seen rushing toward the truck and pulling out Isaac Sullivan, who had been injured in the crash. Deputy Scaglione helped him to safety. Moments later, a BNSF train can be seen striking the truck.

Scaglione, 61, has worked in the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office since 1998. He has received four certificates of commendation from the department, including a bronze medal for meritorious conduct and a bronze medal for outstanding service, reports the Kansas City Star.
