N.C. Town to Keep Own Police Force
January 15, 2013
|
Cherryville in Gaston County, N.C., will continue to have its own police force for now. The future of the police department had been uncertain since three officers were arrested in an FBI investigation in October.
The Cherryville City Council was considering trying to save money by giving the city's policing duties solely to Gaston County, which had already been sending officers to help out while Cherryville PD was down a few officers. But after receiving numbers from the county, the Cherryville City Council decided Monday that any savings would only be short-term and therefore not worth disbanding the city's police department.
