Shot NYPD Cops Leave Hospital

January 08, 2013  |

The three NYPD officers who were shot Thursday night within an hour have been released from the hospital.

Officer Juan Pichardo, 37, left a Bronx hospital on Saturday as 100 colleagues cheered him on. Pichardo climbed from his wheelchair into a waiting SUV.

Pichardo foiled a robbery at Boston Road Auto Mall. The officer, who was off duty at the time, broke free of zip cuffs and disarmed Jeffrey Okine, as the 22-year-old shot the officer in the thigh, reports the New York Daily News.

Two other officers who were shot during a shootout on the N Train in Brooklyn were released from medical care on Thursday. A bullet struck Officer Michael Levay, 27, in the back of his ballistic vest. Officer Levay told colleagues, "It's nice to be going home," reports the New York Daily News.

Officer Levay's plainclothes partner, Lukasz Kozicki, was hit three times in his legs. Kozicki, 32, appeared pained when he left the Lutheran Medical Center in Bay Ridge three hours after the shooting.
