All the publicity concerning the Sandy Hook shooter and others in my view is helping convince other copy cat killers that they too want some fame even if it is for killing people.

We need to make all... illegal and background checks on everyone that have or intend to use them need to be done. Oh wait, this has already been done.

Where there is a will there is a way. My mind still can not fathom wanting to take the lives of countless innocent victims over some issue that can probably be resolved with the right help. The tools are available if those individual would just avail themselves to USE them. If you wanna die, just off yourself, and stop trying to be famous on your way out, because fame or not, you'll never know...Who wants to go out of this world labeled sick and deranged??

Well said, Tom. The media sensationalizing this crap is what makes more people want to do the same. To get their names in the history books, or at the very least, listed on Carpe Noctem.

I wish the media would cover it briefly, not mention the suspect's name, and be done with it after that. Stop giving them attention, it's what they wanted.

The media makes heroes of these psychopaths, who just like classic serial killers, try to outdo each other. That needs to end and NOW. As Nichole said, NEVER use the psychopaths' names, ever. Toss them in a deep hole like they ever existed.

We also need to take a good look at how we assess mental health and bring back long-term institutionalization. I agree that society is badly broken with little sense of personal responsibility or community obligation. However, 99.9999% of kids do not try to blow up their schools or otherwise murder has many people as possible. These evil ones must be identified, treated, and if treatment fails, locked away for everyone's safety. Evil knows no age limits, and we need to stop coddling aspiring mass murderers "because they're only children." A very tiny minority are incapable of being rehabilitated, and they need to tossed down a deep, dark hole.

It is only an amount of time before the IED becomes the weapon of choice for the homicidal manics that want to rack up body counts with school/public shootings. What will Obama, Biden, Fienstein and the list goes on, say then? Focus on the real issues and make an effective plan to combat these acts of terror. Stop wasting time trying to put together some pointless assault weapons ban that will not prevent a single incident and will only violate the rights of millions of lawful citizens, LEOs and military personnel.

It is time our nation stops looking for symptoms and circumstances to outlaw and address the issue of mental illness. Law enforcement is NOT an appropriate tool for addressing mental illness any more then using a shotgun blast for a hammer. LE does more damage then good and never really gets the job done. Ignoring mental illness is also never going to free society from the plague of violence these people rain down on us.

It's time we look at mental illness do something appropriate to protect our communities.
