Calif. Homeowner Shoots, Kills Home Invader

December 23, 2012  |

A robbery suspect was shot and killed during a home invasion robbery in Sacramento's Pocket neighborhood early Saturday morning.

According to Officer Doug Morse, a homeowner, a robbery suspect and two other people were in a gun battle outside of the home on the 900 block of Haven Court just after 3:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found one robbery suspect fatally wounded; the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The homeowner was also shot and was transported a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This should make NATIONAL NEWS ASAP! anybody please send this to all NETWORKS or do they serve the NWO and WASH DC LIBERALS? This is why more guns in legal citizens hands are far better than more laws.

Dan @ 12/25/2012 7:51 PM

@john ill get on that right away. I wonder if he used a handgun or rifle? I have an idea John. Lets subsidize guns or better yet, lets give a free one to each child at birth. That way we can be sure every law abiding citizen has a gun. Surely we will see a decrease in crime.

Rick @ 12/25/2012 8:38 PM

We CA citizens would see a drop in crime if the state issued CCW permits like FL does. Instead, the Gov. outlawed the open carry of unloaded handguns and then outlawed the open carry of unloaded long guns. Yep, I completely believe that the criminals will comply with these new laws and the other existing gun laws so crime goes down......yeah, right.

Dan @ 12/25/2012 9:09 PM

@rick
Unfortunately Florida has a higher murder, rape, and violent crime rate than California when compared to population size. So your "theory" doesn't pan out. Google is a really cool tool to use when you want to learn things; like facts for instance.

Dustin @ 12/25/2012 9:34 PM

Seems like dans never been on the other end of a gun before. He'd probably want one then..

Morning Eagle @ 12/25/2012 11:23 PM

There are a few that post comments on this site from time to time whose sarcastic replies to what others say add nothing of value and only show their ignorance. And, anyone that depends on google for "facts" has a problem right from the outset.
One thing for sure, this would-be home invader's career has been effectively ended and that is a good thing.

me @ 12/26/2012 6:43 AM

Well done, legal law abiding home owner.

Dan,

Get a grip. What if I told you I have seven of the evil AR15s? And gasp, I have children?!?

The only rifle I have that’s been pointed at a human was used on-duty. The rest are locked away in a professional grade gun safe. No one is getting to my firearms without my knowledge.

Irrational fear of an object is insanity. Claw hammers can be used for horrible crimes. Do you run in abject fear of the tool department at Home Depot?

...sigh...foolish people are foolish...

Brian Ogden @ 12/26/2012 7:00 AM

Um, Dan? Using your logic and "theory" would have Washington DC, with the strictest gun laws on record, safely enjoying the least amount of murder and violent crime rates. But, they are #1 in murder and violent crimes! OOPS!

Dan @ 12/26/2012 7:35 AM

I love all the replies.

@dustin
Thanks but I currently work in law enforcement and I've served in OIF. Like you I'm sure, I've faced the barrel of a gun before. But again, I'm trained. The average citizen is not!

@morning eagle

I guess I have to apologize again. It is hard to not get heated in this discussion. However, my friend, I'm guessing there is a generational gap. In today's day and age, the Internet is full of reliable facts. My point was that it doesn't take much to educate yourself.

@me
I like you, but you are a rarity. The average citizen keeps his gun in his glove box, under the seat of his car, under his mattress, in the closet. The average citizen cannot afford a professional grade gun safe. I'm assuming the safe is secured to the ground, because we've all taken reports where the safe was stolen too. I would also like to point out that the "assult rifle" ban still didnt prevent LE from obtain the weapons authorized by their departments. My point again is the average citizen does not need an AR to defend themselves. Everybody posting approaches the scenario as themselves and not the absent minded sheep that most people are. How did criminals obtain illegal guns in the first place? Either they were law abiding citizens at one time OR they stole them or obtained them from someone who stole them from a law abiding citizen.

@brian
My point was sarcastic. I never claimed the opposite to be true.

John @ 12/26/2012 8:21 AM

1) The sensationalist, anti gun, national news media very rarely report about the many guns owners across this country who responsibly and legally use firearms to defend themselves and their family.

2) Dan, you seem like a typical liberal elitist. Only you should be armed, no one else. You are a sarcastic, know it all who is just trying to get a rise out of everyone. Maybe, you would be better off reading Redbook than Police Magazine. Additionally, people who depend on google searches for their sole source of information are ignorant.

Dan @ 12/26/2012 9:20 AM

@john

My guess is you glanced at my post rather than read it. I never implied only LE should have access to guns and I never said I rely on google as my sole source of information. I apologized for being sarcastic already. This is an important topic that should be discussed. I didn't intend to come across the way I did. I know we are all passionate about this issue. The 2nd amendment is our right as citizens but there has to be compromise. It cannot be a far left or right solution. My point once again is that an "assault rifle" ban will not put the average citizen at any more risk. The average citizen who faces an active shooter scenario will only like have a handgun on them. No one is calling for a repeal of the 2nd amendment. Gun regulation is a start, but it shouldnt be the end of it. However, everything else people have proposed also needs funding.

Clark @ 12/26/2012 9:50 AM

Looks to me like there is a sheep in a sheep dogs clothing in this discussion.

John Carp @ 12/26/2012 10:37 AM

I thought that this was a Law Enforcement ONLY website!

Dan @ 12/26/2012 10:53 AM

@John and @clark. I thought so too but judging on the quality of the posts I think otherwise. However my department requires more than a high school diploma. So maybe it's the quality of the department and education.

Alex @ 12/26/2012 1:40 PM

Dan,

Think you can lay off the holier-than-thou attitude? "Average citizens" aren't trained? Some are, some aren't. But how do we decide who gets to permission from mommy and daddy to own a big-boy gun? Do we let the congresscritters in brainwashington D.C. decide? How well has that worked out so far? Do we let people who don't know what a "barrel shroud" is make the decisions about what weapons "average citizens" get to own? Case in point:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rGpykAX1fo

What about our fellow former LEOs or military folks? Do they lose the right to own an AR15 when they decide to get out? Not all become LEOs, some become teachers, paramedics, or maybe even construction foremen.

Why do you insist on going straight to the Active Shooter scenario? What about HOME INVASIONS which happen EVERY DAY around the country? As you well know, the AR15 has MANY advantages as a defensive weapon against multiple assailants.

Lastly, regarding the "compromise" part of your discussion, what *precisely* does the phrase "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" mean to you? It seems pretty clear cut to me.

Oh, and they don't "need" an AR15? Give me an effing break. Do people "need" a Covette, Cummins 3500 turbo diesel, or even a 55" flat screen TV? No. And who are you to tell people what they "need" to own. Grow up. Oh, that's right, I forgot, you're BETTER than the "average" citizen, so it's DIFFERENT for you. :rolleyes:

By the way, there are COUNTLESS "average civilian" shooters out there who can run me, you, and almost everyone else in this discussion into the dirt with firearms. Just because they never served in the military or as a LEO doesn't make them inept.

Alex @ 12/26/2012 1:40 PM

Robert Smith @ 12/26/2012 2:59 PM

Does anyone on this thread know that the same day the mental moron killed those 26 people in Conn. that in Chinese moron went into a grade school and killed 14 children with a meat cleaver? So what now we outlaw meatcleavers?

Alex @ 12/26/2012 3:18 PM

Robert,

Unless there were two incidents in China on that day, I believe the perp used a knife and no children died. Not that it makes it any better...

Dan @ 12/26/2012 3:32 PM

@alex

Nice post. Are you serious? Shall not be infringed, eh? What about the first amendment right to free speech? What laws are on the books that limit our right to say what we want when we want? Please! All of the amendments have limitations and rightfully so. The 2nd amendment is not absolute.

I would say they lose the right to carry an AR after they leave service. When I got out of the military I didn't take a MK19 with me. Some weapons should not be in the hands of the public. I'm hoping we agree on this point at least, regardless of the AR discussion. Do I need to point out again the 2nd amendment could be abolished if the people so choose?

Dan @ 12/26/2012 3:33 PM

@alex

Part 2

And yes I stand by what I said. People don't need access to an AR. I'm also in agreeance that people don't need a coverette or giant TV but the intended purpose of a gun is to kill something; that absolutely deserves regulation. A car has the unintended consequence of killing someone and we regulate the shit out of that. I can't just get in a semi and start driving.

I obviously am referring to an active shooter scenario as that has been dominating headlines. I appreciated the link and if you can point me to a news story about a home owner defending himself with an AR I would appreciate it. I would like to see the comparison between the number of home owners defending themselves with AR's vs the number of ARs stolen from homes and the number of ARs used in crimes. What do you think would come out on top?

Those shooters out there that are better than me, should be cops then. :) But on a serious note, we make the laws to accommodate the dumb. The laws don't exsist for the component.

I still like the idea of doubling police forces. If we all exercised a little restraint. Like not buying a giant TV or corvette or football tickets, then maybe we could pay for extra officers. But overindulgence in America is a whole other discussion.

With regards to guns, I am of the type that believes you are inept until proven otherwise. I don't care if law enforcement starts putting on citizen training classes but some type of training or certification should be required to own an AR. I would go as far as to say it should be imposed on any gun purchase. We have a license process to help insure competent drivers, we could have a license to show competency with a firearm.

I agree there are some shitty politicians, on all sides. However, gun regulation of this scale needs to happen at the national level. Unfortunately we are stuck with the politicians we have but it shouldn't stop us from talking about it.

Dan @ 12/26/2012 3:37 PM

@robert

Is this the same argument as the pot one? If we legalize pot where will it stop? Crack, meth? Of course people won't outlaw meat cleavers nor would it be reasonable to. However, there does exists laws that regulate where you take one. Again! No one is talking about an all out gun ban!

JT @ 12/26/2012 6:06 PM

@Dan... "No one is talking about an all out gun ban!"

So your saying I'll be allowed to keep my single shot shotgun...hmm, sounds like what Canada has...with a very expensive permit of course. So where would you draw the line? no AR's...what else cant we have? can I keep my black powder pistol or are 5 rounds too many?

Dan @ 12/26/2012 7:18 PM

@jt

I'll refer you to my last post. And absolutely, you can keep your shotgun.

Dennis @ 12/26/2012 8:57 PM

Very unfortunate that the good guy got shot! Good news that the bad guy got shot and he is dead; one last bad guy to hurt others.

Alex @ 12/26/2012 9:29 PM

Boy uses AR15 to protect himself and his sister during a home invasion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBe48u6ERiI

There are COUNTLESS more examples of this, remember, guns are used 2.5 MILLION times per year in self-defense situations. You just have to hunt for the stories because the pressitute media generally refuses to cover it.

And regarding the 1st v 2nd Amendment issue, I know that the Constitution is a complicated subject, but remind me please: which other Amendment SPECIFICALLY states "shall not be infringed"? Oh, that's right, NONE OF THEM. There is a REASON for that, but you'll refuse to see the truth, despite an overabundance of evidence. I point you to the Federalist papers, as well as quotes from various discussions and works by the Founding Fathers:

http://econfaculty.gmu.edu/wew/quotes/arms.html

But what did those guys know?! I mean, they only founded the most free nation in the history of humanity. Unfortunately, that freedom is stripped from us more and more every day, but I digress.

Since you said that you don't believe in an all out gun ban, let's play a little game. Let's pretend that an assault weapons ban with teeth is passed in February. People with EBRs (evil black rifles) and 30-round death-sticks (read: standard capacity magazines) can keep them, however they cannot sell them to anyone else or bring them out of the house. 2 months later, a crazy person shoots up a mall with an illegally acquired AK47. So, then next "logical" step by the congresscritters (who, incidentally, share your holier-than-thou attitude) will be to prohibit ownership of said EBRs and death-sticks (punishing law-abiding citizens because the politician are incapable of controlling violent criminals or keeping their sorry asses in jail). Then what? Ban revolvers and shotguns? Then knives perhaps? It's a slippery slope. See: Canada, UK, Australia.

Alex @ 12/26/2012 9:33 PM

And you're right, the People could abolish the Second Amendment if we saw fit, but despite what the "mainstream" presstitute media is tell you, AMERICANS LOVE THEIR GUNS.

If that wasn't the case, and the "majority" of Americans actually believed that citizens shouldn't own EBRs, then why pray-tell is EVERY gun store in the nation completely sold out of AR15s, AK47s, and 20/30 round magazines for those weapons? Gosh...maybe it's because the vast majority of Americans DO believe that we ALL have the right to keep and bear WHATEVER arms we deem necessary for our situation.

Un-Dan @ 12/27/2012 7:32 AM

@Dan - If you are in fact truly an LEO, then my guess is either you work somewhere where the crime rate is zero and you spend your entire shift kissing the butt of the rich homeowners that pay your salary, or, maybe you are new to the profession and experience has not yet taught you that YOU cannot protect everyone, and people have a RIGHT to be able to defend themselves. What a citizen chooses to arm themselves with is really none of the governments business. As a cop with 25 years of street experience I am much more afraid of the $25 POS Raven, Jennings and Hi-Points runnign around out there than I am of the AR15s. I have taken literally hundreds of those POS guns off CRIMINALS, I have yet to find one that was carrying an AR. In fact, we had two recent burglaries to gun stores in my town. In both cases the walls were festooned with these horrible assualt weapons, yet the theives only took a couple of them. They took twenty plus cheap handguns in both cases. Why? Because it is hard to hide an AR15 in your britches. I shudder to think that someone with your mentality is out their with the sworn duty of protecting my liberty.

Chuck @ 12/27/2012 12:00 PM

I see at least one true Liberal Demigod (democrat to most, and this doesn’t refer to all democrats) posting on here. He doesn't think it is right for someone to own one of those nasty - evil rifles and because he thinks that way; and because to most demigods their rights, feelings, or opinions far outweigh those of the rest of us uneducated and far less important mortals, the demigods will tell us what we should think, feel and need, the "Holier Than Thou" attitude is all just part of the extreme liberal demigod attitude. I have been in LE for over 25 years, served in the Marines, have shot at and been shot at by bad guys, since I will soon be leaving my chosen career, according to liberal demigod Dan, I should lose all rights to my firearms. Of course, he wants to just let the government take over my care and safety, since that is what they do so very well; they can tell me what I need. How about you take care of you, I will take care of me, you and the rest of the demigod party stay the hell out of my house and I will raise my own family as I see fit. I don't need you telling me what I need. Take some of that lifetime welfare money and some of that money you all seem to think anyone, be they citizens or not have a right to and put it back toward our own citizens, put it toward getting some help for those with mental issues so they can get the care they need, keep those that prey on the citizens and society locked in little tiny cages and not let them out to re-prey on society. Instead you think that by making me pay more taxes, take away my rights, take away my property and giving it to someone else, we will all of the sudden turn into a utopian society. Go be a social worker and save the world, stay out of mine.

Tom Ret @ 12/27/2012 6:45 PM

Having restrictions on magazine capacity, armored vests, full auto weapons etc. did not deter the two shooters in the hollywood bank robbery shootout. With LAPD trying to contain them with shotguns and handguns, the two bad guys had a firepower advantage even though they were totally out manned. Obviously, LAPD decided post shooting that they too needed to equip their officers with AR15 rifles because it was apparent that the bad guys are not concerned about gun laws and will only use the laws to their advantage to outgun their opponents. A lot of liberal politicians and press in California believe that if there is a law forbidding possession of these weapons, the bad guys will not have them. People in the country are buying ar15s or similar weapons in unprecedented numbers and believe that an assault weapons ban will not make them any safer or deter the hardened criminals such as those in the hollywood robbery. If the AR15 is deemed illegal don't be surprised if several commonly used hunting rifles fall under the assault weapon definition they come up with.

Dan @ 12/27/2012 7:41 PM

I fully understand now. Thank you to every one of you old farts on here. I get it. Your old, your white, and you are a republican. (Your gun belts are probably tilted at a 45 degree angle due to your oversized guts.) You are a dying breed. An endangered species that won't be saved. The world is changing, you can't accept it and it will leave you behind.

Your arguments are old, tired and faulty. I would like to say I feel sympathy for your kind, but I don't. How can I change the opinions of people who still beat gay people, think the majority of Americans live off welfare, and are threatened by illegal immigration? I can't, I just wait for you to pass on. Let me tell you tho, you probabaly have a gay son, you have received government assistance, and you reap the benefits of cheaper goods and services of the backs of those immigrants.

I hate to tell you, but the winds of change have come. This is why you are threatened. You know it is true and you can't stop it.

Alex @ 12/28/2012 4:48 AM

Funny, I just turned 30 and don't match your preconceived notions at all. But I'm sure your post made you feel proud and smug for telling off the "geezers." ROFLMOA

But it's OK, you defaulted to the typical liberal "argument" when you the truth starts to sink in: insults. You say that our arguments are old and faulty...please explain-with FACTS AND REASON-why our argument are flawed and antiquated.

It's ironic though, that the person claiming that "[t]he world is changing, you can't accept it and it will leave you behind" is the same guy who is saying that modern firearms such as Glocks and AR15s are evil but revolvers and over-under shotguns are OK.

So who in this discussion is still stuck in the past?

Dan @ 12/28/2012 7:50 AM

@alex

Your mistaken, I'm not a 13yr old girl and this isn't AOL. You don't have to lie about your age here. You slung mud far before I did. Don't be disappointed because you lack eloquence and got spanked for it. It is something you still have time to improve on.

If by chance you are 30, I have another characteristic to add to account for your ballooned sense of self-righteousness, Christian. Nothing you Christians like more than believing your wives are pregnant virgins, Santa clause brings you presents and guns are only for white people.

Oh wait, I know! Alex is a girls name. You're suffering from menopause. Poor thing. Maybe a transvaginal ultrasound will clear you right up.

Dan @ 12/28/2012 8:04 AM

@alex

FYI old man, you don't actually have to roll on the floor when you type ROFLMAO. Also you got it spelled it wrong, maybe your grand kids can help you next time.

Martin @ 12/28/2012 11:29 AM

It is the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of Needs and it specifically lays out unalienable rights protected from Government, not rights granted by Government. If the day comes when Government tries to confiscate firearms by force I WILL stand and fight and I will support anyone else who is fighting to hold onto any firearm not used in a crime. Carried a gun for a living from 1966 to 2003.

Chuck @ 12/28/2012 4:07 PM

Great arugment there dan, feelings get hurt because no one is cowing down to your opinion. again, typical demigod, your opinion, feelings, wants and needs are far more important thatn anyone else and if people won't bend to your will and accept what you say, you revert back to the good old gay bashing, unpatriotic, unamerican, nazi name calling again typical rhetoric. those like you are not long for this profession, being a demigod and not understanding that, it is not about you, it not your will that everyone in society must bend to, it is you that must bend to society. I do pity you dan, because it is your attitude that is giving this great profession the stain, you are tarnishing the badge and uniform, not the old geezers. you have in your posting have attacked law enforcement, the badge, gays, and Christians all because they won't bow down to you and agree with your venom. God bless you dan, hopefully someday you will learn to at least respect the fact that not everyone has to bend to your will to have a meaningful dialog.

Dan @ 12/28/2012 5:55 PM

@chuck

You came into this late, so I'd expect you to be a bit slow catching up, but I didn't start this flow of garbage. What do you think you're doing when you call me and every other democrat a demigod? You're just as full of yourself as you propose me to be.

You're right about the bending of society. Except the direction is in my favor. This time, I'll be bending forward to push you and your out dated ideas backward.

Typical Christian, you spent the last paragraph tearing me down only to say god bless you. I don't need the blessing of you or your dead god.

Alex @ 12/29/2012 5:36 AM

Chuck,

Don't bother continuing to feed the troll; he gets his jollies off by being derisive. At this point, I think everyone else in these comments understands what Dan is wholly incapable of understanding: MILLIONS of guns were sold in the week after news of the AWB started to circulate. Guns stores, both internet-based and brick-and-mortar, around the country are completely sold out of Evil Black Rifles, standard-capacity magazines, and "European ceramic guns that can pass through metal detectors" (read: Glocks). Oh, and they are completely sold out of all of the ammo for those same weapons.

"Society" didn't run out and buy over-under shotguns and revolvers, they bought the firearms that they know will be the best firearms to defend their family.

Americans inherently know that Freedom must be defended by force and that disarmament is the path to enslavement and tyranny. It's not about the children or about "public safety," it's about tyranny. Period.

OCSO Dep @ 1/2/2013 7:32 AM

Dan@,
I'm surprised that as a professed LEO, you belittle, and show quite a bit of disrespect for your fellow LEOs' opinions and street knowledge. Situational awareness and experience are needed in this job. You show contempt to senior officers, calling them old geezers, that all current LEOs walk around just to beat gay people, all LEOs that believe in a deity are wrong, etc.
I truely hope that IF you are truely a LEO, that your identity from your postings isn't recognized by others in your department. You may just find yourself needing the help of some old "geezer", or needing a back up when you're getting your a** kicked, and there's no one coming to your aid, because you are so much better that they are, and you've been in Iraq (which by the way has nothing to do with working the streets)
