The suspect who fatally shot two Topeka (Kan.) Police officers Sunday evening remains at large, reports the Kansas City Star.

Cpl. David Gogian, 50, and Officer Jeff Atherly, 29, were shot after they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a central Topeka grocery store. The officers died later at the hospital.

Gogian was an eight-year veteran and Atherly had served the department for almost two years.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to these Officers, Their families and all the Officers and families of the Topeka Police Department. May God's Mercy and Grace comfort you in these troubled times of grief and disbelief. In my 25 years our Agency (Sedgwick County, Kansas Sheriff's Office) has lost (5) in the line of duty. It never gets easier and our hearts go out to all of you.

My prayers and thoughts are with the families of these officers.
