An off-duty Bexar County (Texas) Sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a gunman at a movie theater late Sunday and took him into custody with the help of another off-duty officer, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jesus Manuel Garcia, initially opened fire at China Garden restarant, where he was an employee. Garcia's girlfriend had broken up with him.

Garcia then chased a co-worker toward the nearby Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater, where he shot a patron. An off-duty sheriff's sergeant working a security detail at the theater chased Garcia into a bathroom, where she shot him several times. The sergeant took him into custody with the help of an off-duty San Antonio Independent School District police officer, reports the Express-News.

See how good people with guns stop bad people with guns.

LawMan5643 @ 12/17/2012 4:34 PM

Always good to hear about the good guys foiling the bad ones.

Ken @ 12/17/2012 5:31 PM

Just proves the theory that the only way to stop a man with a gun is with another gun.

RICHARD ISAACS @ 12/17/2012 6:01 PM

STORIES LIKE THESE GIVE ME HOPE. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVEN'T SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS INCIDENT ON THE LOCAL NEWS IN COLORADO OR ANY OTHER NATIONAL BROADCAST.

DerekT. @ 12/17/2012 6:10 PM

This is by design the intent of why off duty law enforcement officers carry concealed weapons. Here we see case in point, what happens when a deranged subject, bent on the destruction of others is appropriately subdued. The sad fact is this will never be portrayed by the media as a favorable alternative for the general population. Even for those qualified to carry concealed weapons to address a would be opportunist criminal. People need to wake up, this is a new age of those who are creatures of comfort. The fact still remains, there are those who are the Sheep, Those who are the Wolf, and the few who are the Shepherds. By the way, outstanding job Sergeant. I hope this sets presidents for a new standard for gun control.

Chuvk @ 12/17/2012 6:43 PM

The stupid uninforned people dont see that

Steve @ 12/17/2012 6:52 PM

Derek makes a valid point. However, carry permits should have as a prerequisite all the safety training afforded to the off duty cop.

Morning Eagle @ 12/18/2012 12:00 AM

This incident will never make national news because it does not fit with the political agenda of eventually disarming America. Of course it is overshadowed by the senseless school killings that the media and politicians are wasting no time in trying to exploit the national emotional reactions to push for more restrictions on the capability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves or others.

Doc @ 12/18/2012 1:19 AM

Good Job, too bad the violent criminal didn't die, and I'm sure he won't even get a life sentence. The media does not want to report this kind of stuff, they want the U.N. to mandate confiscation of our guns. I don't see how people can be so Passive! Dianne Feinstein, Turn in YOUR Guns that you carry!

sgtbuke @ 12/18/2012 3:57 AM

Probably an illegal alien with felony convictions as well. Just playing the odds.

Steve @ 12/18/2012 8:00 AM

Always said if there more more armed citizens a lot of these incidents would be foiled. There are plenty of citizens out ther capable. Ex military. Retired police Etc.

PD @ 12/18/2012 11:09 AM

We all know that these mass-shooting suspects are cowards. Look - this punk ran and hid in a bathroom. The shame is that Feinstein and her other anti-gun nuts are suppressing news like this from mainstream media. Hey Feinstein - how many deaths would be on YOUR hands if the good guys weren't armed? Hope this Sergeant gets a medal...

naynaybeme @ 12/18/2012 11:32 AM

I have happily posted this article to facebook, and with my 1,000 'friends' word should spread quickly.

S.S @ 12/18/2012 12:07 PM

Way to go racial there sgtPuke. You know not all people with hispanic last names are illegal aliens dumbass. That aside, I agree that people that are armed and qualified are able to stop the p.o.s. that is packing too. Who else would've done it?

TBOW426 @ 12/19/2012 6:58 AM

She went into the bathroom after the suspect and shot him several times. That takes some big b****!!!!!!!! Way to go Sarge!!!!!!! Active shooter, she pursues and puts him down. That what all that training is about. I'll go through a door with her anytime!

Sgt. Mike @ 12/19/2012 9:00 PM

Well trained and armed people CAN stop these things, making new laws are not necessary. Its a shame the major media outlets only show the cases that don't end well and not much attention is given to the successful cases.

ART DIAZ @ 1/5/2013 2:27 PM

the deputy sheriff at san antonio movie theatre incident as well as many, many others demonstrate clearly, that an armed responce is the only and effective way to stop an active shooter in progress. i already know for an absolute undeniable hard cold fact that people who are a mentally disturbed group of people who have maladaptive inappropriate fear are against citizens using guns to protect themseves or others. I say that the stupidest thing any person on earth could do is to falsely believe a LIE that puts their survival in jepardy or someone elses life. That is the epitomy of stupidity.
