N.Y. Man Killed Attempting To Rob Undercover Cops

December 10, 2012  |

A career criminal was fatally shot when he attempted to rob a drug dealer and two undercover New York City police officers with an air pistol that closely resembled a handgun.

Victor Santos, 42, didn't realize that two of his targets were undercover officers, when he pointed the air pistol at them. As Santos pulled the pistol, the drug dealer shouted, "They're cops, you idiot!"

Santos was pronounced dead at Wyckoff Heights Hospital. His weapon was later identified as a Walther CP99 compressed-air pistol, reports CBS New York.

You know the old saying 'never bring a knife to a gun fight' ? Well don't ever bring an air pistol to a gun fight either. UC officers "1" idiot, zero, Just the way it should be.

Good job, one less for the courts

These are the kind of stories I like to read. I wish all criminals were this stupid! Like the quote from the drug dealer!!!

Thank you for making the point that someone that is armed can fight back. This is why concealed carry laws always result in lower violent crime rates; because the criminal fears an armed citizen might fight back and this is why not just cops should be armed. Between CCW laws and Project Exhile (enforcement of existing federal gun laws against criminals) crime dropped significantly in VA. Should CA ever pass better CCW laws, our crime rate here would drop below the national average instead of being above the national average.

Funny thing... Air pistols like the one SANTOS used are also restricted in new York City... So it looks like another gun law was broken even in that regard. Good work NYPD... But how is the Drug Dealer know they were cops???

Yeah, driverx. I had the same question about the drug dealer! I can only figure one of two things - either he was working with them as a CI, or maybe they were just about to lock him up. I'd like to know the whole story there.

"But how is the Drug Dealer know they were cops???"

Clearly he was setting his friend up(not much of a friend eh), and his friend WAS clearly an idiot

A drug dealer would get a life sentence if he killed the man trying to rob him.....Just saying
