U.S. District Judge Larry Burns on Thursday sentenced Tucson shooter Jared Loughner to seven consecutive life terms plus 140 years, calling the sentence "astronomical" and "justified" because Loughner "knew what he was doing" when he killed six and wounded 13 at a 2011 congressional event sponsored by then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

"The facts show he traveled there with the purpose of shooting Ms. Giffords," Burns said.

In an intense and emotion hearing that lasted about 2 1/2 hours, Burns ordered Loughner, 23, returned to a federal prison hospital in Missouri pending a decision by the federal Bureau of Prisons as to where he will ultimately serve his sentence.

Come on now. I am not a Liberal. He was found guilty in a Court of Law. Life Sentences plus ? Are we Americans that soft ? In my view the Sentence should have been Execution.

May you rot in hell Loughner. You truly should have been executed but on the plus side you will hopefully spend many long years caged like the animal you are.

DocJHolliday @ 11/9/2012 1:17 AM

That's too soft for what he did, he should have a death sentence. I hope Tyronne & Bubba and everyone else give him what he deserves for a while and then decide to stab him and end the cost to the tax payers. I hope he lasts less than one year, as his victims including Children didn't get that long. A killer like that, where it's known beyond ANY doubt that he did it, should ALWAYS be Executed. An example needs to be made of the Violent criminals, then we wouldn't have so many of them around, to escape or be released.

Loughner clearly serves no purpose on this earth, so why the hell is he even being spared? He deserves the death sentence plain and clear. After what he did I'm sure the majority of the people out there agree. Just put 'em down!!!

My bet is that he'll be placed in solitary, away from the general population and babied for the rest of his life. I also bet the ACLU is already lining up to ensure he gets a big screen TV, full cable, private tutoring to get a degree, better food, and the list goes on.
