The mother of I-96 corridor shooting suspect Raulie Wayne Casteel, who was arrested at his in-laws' Wixom home Monday night, says she was worried her son was mentally ill and tried to get him help.

"He trusted me, but I could not get him to see a doctor," Lana Hunt, 62, of Brooksville, Fla., told the Free Press by phone this evening.

Hunt said her son was taken from his Wixom home Monday night and was questioned by authorities. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Casteel, 43, is the suspect they have in custody in connection with the I-96 corridor shootings.

The task force investigating the shootings is confident the suspect is responsible for the crime spree that terrorized motorists in recent weeks, officials said. He is believed to be involved in 24 shootings across Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee counties since Oct. 16.
