Officer Ivan Marcano became Detective Ivan Marcano during a bedside ceremony Friday morning honoring him for stopping an armed robber despite being shot in the chest.

Marcano was shot in the chest during a gun battle Wednesday night, after he confronted two men who were robbing a third man at gunpoint in the Morris Heights area of the Bronx.

Marcano was off-duty at the time and chased down the suspects after he was shot. He returned fire, killing Prince James, the 18-year-old who shot him. James' accomplice, 20-year-old Jason Leiva, turned himself in on Friday.

Marcano left the hospital on Friday, after doctors treated him for the wound. The bullet just missed his heart, reports the New York Daily News.

Congratulations on the promotion and good job on the stopping of the robbery and shooting, you might want to rethink that no vest thing, though.God Speed, for a speedy and thorough recovery.

Great job on the good shoot and crime fighting! And thanks for carrying your handgun at all times like all LEOs should! We wear our vests on duty but we shouldn't ever have to wear them off-duty! That's impractical and unrealistic Deadman!

Jerry @ 10/30/2012 4:48 AM

My congratulations to you, Detective ! I'm thrilled that you are ok and at the display of excellent police work and bravery coupled with great training. You are a credit to all LEO's everywhere. It's just sad that NYC & Bloomberg outlaw concealed carry because your concealed carry saved lives, including your own. Please try to get the message out to Bloomberg that concealed carry saves lives!

S.S @ 10/30/2012 6:48 AM

Officer Marcano I wish you a speedy recovery, and I hope everything works out physically with you. You are a credit to your police dept., as well as police officers everywhere. Helluva job. Thanx again.

Juan 10-13 @ 10/30/2012 7:38 AM

Good job my brother....my prayers to you for a safe/healthy and speedy recovery. The only hope for NYC is to flush Bloomberg down the sewer.
