ID for Illegals Passes L.A. Council Committee

A plan to provide full-fledged city identification cards to illegal immigrants was easily approved Tuesday by a Los Angeles City Council committee who agreed to hire a third-party vendor to produce the cards.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa began pushing the plan, which initially started as an initiative to provide library cards to city residents. The Arts, Parks, Health and Aging Committee voted unanimously to ask the City Council to hire a vendor.
The City Service Card would provide access to the library and other city services. It could also be activated as a rechargeable debit card.
Several other cities including San Francisco and Oakland currently offer identification cards to anyone who can show residency in the city.
Critics say Los Angeles is making it easier for illegal immigrants to live in the city, reports the Los Angeles Times.

kinda reminds me of a gun registration scheme: first you register em' one year, next year confiscate by the numbers! So, once the ILLEGALs are registered, I say let the round up begin!

way to go third party vendor find the one who produces fake documents and then present them as verification for your offical city certified ID card all in one visit. there goes the budget.

This sux. And we want to secure our borders. Yeah right!!! This is just an open door where the illegals get one more up on the good guys. I would like to see whoever gets this card have to give up dna, and fingerprints. If you got nothing to hide what's the harm?

They need to stop harassing people like Joe Arpaio crack down on sanctuary cities who obviously violate federal law. But Obama would rather have his DOJ fighting immigration bills in states that are meant to assist the feds in their duties. Chief Beck is a joke now that I realize how he got his position by the current city council. Law and ethics mean nothing to them. Its all political pandering.

WTF!!!! This is just CRAZY!!! If you are an illegal and you have enough sense to apply for an "identification card" to "show residency" then why the heck can't you follow protocol to apply for legal residency like all of the other immigrants before you? The Mayor is drinking the kool-aide as they say.....

My opinion: at or near the top of any government issued i.d. card it should be printed, "non U.S. citizen" if the applicant is a non U.S. citizen with a valid green card or be printed, "illegal alien" if the applicant is a non U.S. citizen without a valid green card.
