Five Los Angeles Police officers are under investigation in the death of a woman who died in custody after resisting arrest.

The incident began when Alesia Thomas left her two children at the Southeast Area station on July 22. Thomas, a drug addict, then became a child endangerment suspect, and officers located her at her home.

A physical confrontation began when Thomas refused to get into the patrol car and "actively resisted arrest," according to the L.A.P.D. The confrontation was captured on a cruiser's dash cam.

Officers attempted to use a hobble restraint. A female officer threatened to kick Thomas in the genitals if she did not comply, and then followed through on her threat, reports the Los Angeles Times.
