S.F. Cop Suspended Over Nude Mermaid Photos
August 27, 2012

A San Francisco police officer whose hobby is photographing naked women has filed a federal civil rights suit against the city, saying he was wrongfully suspended twice because of his off-duty pastime.
In a suit filed in U.S. District Court in Oakland, Gared Hansen, 36, said the department suspended him twice, in 2009 and 2010, because "it did not approve of plaintiff's artistic expression," according to the suit filed Thursday.
It asserts the photography was done on Hansen's own time "with absolutely no connection to his employment."

Well, it is a little different that is for sure.........but the officer has ID himself as SFPD Officer when he was in the contacted and cited by Contra Costa County. I bet these woman are also told that he is a cop so they are more trusting with him. I agree with the dept. and I bet this was not disclosed on his background that this is what he did in his "photographing career". I just don't know what the hell is going inside some of these cops heads these days.

I'm in agreement with the artist and his free expression. I did some nudes in previous employment and understand the motive and desire. It did not effect or affect my business or my marriage in a negative manner. To each his own...... let his record on duty stand for his character........

Who cares if the guy photographs nude women. The only thing he did wrong was trespass in the abandoned hotel. The rest of it is none of the Department's damn business.
They'll let their officers parade around in uniform in a gay parade but fang a dude for photographing nude chicks.
Maybe it's discrimination. Maybe the chief is gay and doesn't like male/female interaction.

Let's see, there are cops who drink and party hard when not working..no problem. If what Mr. Hansen does is legal what is the harm if he is not bringing in his profession. Sometimes agencies try to micromanage issues that are not agency issues.

Maybe officers should spend off duty learning how to actually gunfight and learn shoot/don't shoot scenarios so innocent civilians in USA (non warzones) don't get shot by panicky cops cause their truck LOOKS similar to suspects. And then maybe one suspect won't tie up thousands of police assets looking for ONE man. Pray a suspect with more than just naval Intel training doesn't go rogue or a squad of operators doesn't decide to do dirt for some strange reason. Or another LA riot of larger proportion. Citizens in CA NEED To BE ARMED AT ALL TIMES. A naked cop if preferable to an incompetent badge heavy non gunfighter. Cops should be all former combat arms soldiers. Better physical condition, better stress under life or death. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY. To cops that served, YOU KNOW the truth.
