Plaintiffs' attorneys will call Sheriff Joe Arpaio to the stand to testify in a civil trial alleging the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office engaged in a pattern of racial discrimination against Latinos.
During opening arguments on Thursday, plaintiffs' attorneys said they will claim M.C.S.O. deputies "relied on race and ethnicity" during "suppression sweeps," singling out the plaintiffs and other Latino passengers and drivers, reports Courthouse News.
The trial stems from a class-action lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, which claims Sheriff Arpaio "acted on racially charged citizen complaints and requests for operations that he forwarded to his senior staff." The complaints criticized people based on "little more than the color of their skin or the fact that they were speaking Spanish," according to an ACLU statement released Monday.

Well lets see....most of our illegals come up from or through Mexico, a very large percentage end up in our jail system as CONVICTED felons. Our hispanic prison population has increased over 20% in the last six years. So we should start watching out for Germans? Maybe Irishmen? There's an old saying, if it looks like a duck.......

Exactly Bob@Az.! Identifying a description of a suspect is the bread and butter of police work. If witnesses see a white man with green hair and purple shirt rob someone, then everyone that fits that description should be ready to show ID and be questioned. I'm ready to go as far as to say that I have no problem being stopped by the police anytime and providing ID. Legal Americans should all agree with this because we have nothing to hide. Ask the millions of unemployed and underemployed Americans how they feel about the influx of ILLEGAL aliens invading the country from the open border.

We're looking for illegal Mexicans. Who is he supposed to profile, blond haired Swede's?

It seems any effort to stem the tide is criticized. Our country is going south and this is one of the reasons.

The ACLU must think they are a force for good. In reality, they are a force for anarchy.

If on a traffic stop, a person spoke German, I would request to see identification, including but not limited to a passport and visa. Same goes for speaking spanish, show me your identification. I know of no legalized american citizen that does not speak english. If our federal authorities were allowed to do their jobs, Sheriff Joe would not be doing it for them.

Let's see "Illegal" immagrants, it is amazing that the "experts" forget that simply word. Let's just open up the borders and let the whole world in so we can become the "illegals". I bet our ass would be on a bus out of town!!

Latino_2040 @ 7/23/2012 5:25 AM
Illegals maybe, but profiling not acceptable. And remember, by 2040 the "Latinos" will be the majority and when they start to profile the "anglo saxon's" let see if they like it then.

"As the immigration debate continues across Arizona, most pragmatic people seem to agree on a few undeniable facts: racial profiling is illegal." A quote from the ACKU that MIGHT be self serving. "undeniable facts"? Facts?? Where are the facts? Oh, a simple statement by the ACLU makes something a "fact"? Like all the "rights" that keep getting thrown around. So, when I worked in a community that was 99% white the black guy strolling around the residential area at 3am CAN'T be detained and ID'd on an FI (field interview) card? Too bad it wasn't some dude high on coke and smoking weed. We might have been spared "Hope and Change"

I guess I must need to read more about this. Where is the profiling accusation coming from? Is it because an officer stops a Latino, hispanic, mexican or whatever we are suppose to call someone without offending them and asks for a driver license, registration, and proof of insurance and then when there is not a valid US license the officer looks into it further? I don't see how that is profiling or any type of rights violation. The US needs to quit giving the ILLEGAL aliens any and welfare assistance and any other assistance that is guaranteed to US CITIZENS. They are not legal citizens in this country and should not receive any free medical or money or food. We have starving US citizens, of all races, that can't get help because they are not illegal aliens. No one says you can't come in but you need to do it legally like all the other races and people before you. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL AND NOT ABOVE OUR LAWS. If you don't understand that get it translated and move back to Mexico if you don't like it.

Yo, latino2040, don't much matter whose in the majority, you still have to be an AMERICAN citizen to become an LEO. Plus the background checks, etc. Last time I looked we Arizonans have quite a few Hispanic LEOs as well as many Border Patrol Officers. Wonder who is doing the "profiling"?
