An officer with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority shot and killed his attacker, who stabbed him in the eye on Wednesday at a Jamaica, Queens, transit station.
Officer John Barnett, 45, underwent more than four hours of surgery at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center after the assault. After the surgery, a doctor said the knife "almost severed his eyeball in half," reports the New York Times.
The attack occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. Officer Barnett was talking with a cabdriver, when Edjar Owens, 46, came toward him with a knife, saying "I'm going to kill you." Owens refused to comply with the officer's commands to drop the weapon.

Read the story in the Times and then read the comments section. Several get well and appreciate what you do comments then one idiotic motherf***** wanting to know why Officer Barnett had to fire his weapon since the assailant was "only armed with a knife" It was not a sarcastic "POLICE" comment but someone that really believes that crap. HEY DUMBASS!!! How about a POS just tried to stick a knife into Officer Barnett's brain and kill him!!!??? I really hope that some day a few of New York's kind and generous citizens are doing a dance on your head and one of them takes out a knife and then see how you feel about it "just being a knife" when they either rape or castrate you before cutting both your eyes out so you cannot identify them!!!!
