Report: Mexican Immigration Wave Has Ended

April 24, 2012  |

The largest wave of immigration from a single county to the United States has reached a statistical standstill, as the net migration flow from Mexico has stopped, according to a report from the Pew Hispanic Center.

In 2011, there were 6.1 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S., down from a peak of nearly 7 million in 2007. Over the same period, the number of authorized Mexican immigrants rose from 5.6 million in 2007 to 5.8 million in 2011.

The center's report cites 2005 as the tipping point that began a five-year period when just as many Mexicans and their American-born children immigrated to Mexico as Mexican nationals immigrated to the U.S. About 1.4 million moved in either direction.

During the five-year period a decade earlier (from 1995 to 2000), about 3 million Mexicans had immigrated to the U.S. and fewer than 700,000 Mexicans and their U.S. born-children had moved from the U.S. to Mexico.

The standstill is a result of many factors, according to the report, including the weakened U.S. job and housing construction markets, heightened border enforcement, a rise in deportations, the growing dangers associated with illegal border crossings, the long-term decline in Mexico's birth rates and changing economic conditions in Mexico.

Probably one of the biggest factors is some local governments just stopped counting many illegal immigrants. Like crime and gangs, if they are not reported, they do not exist and are therefore not a problem. In Illinois Governor Pat Quinn wants to slash pension benefits to state workers and medical benefits to senior citizens and raise taxes but continue the "Sanctuary State" policy that have driven welfare costs to astronomical heights.

It will much better news when they can report the ILLEGAL ALIENS are all going back to Mexico or where ever else they came from.

Thanks to Obama-there aren't any jobs for them either!

Baloney! I see lots of illegals coming in to our facility for work daily. We've tried to weed them out and it worked for the most part because we had the first Green Card Authenticator by Lasercards (the manufactuerer of the Green Card for the Feds). They are still trying to gain entry. Wait until Obama's admin is done collapsing the economy to bring about a change to socialism/communism and see how many illegals come across all borders to find work; it will be a global collapse like in 1929.

I hate to disagree with the Pew folks, but from where I sit it hasn't slowed down much. And how did they come up with the numbers for illegals in the country? Was there a survey I missed? Maybe an 800 number if you were entering this country illegally? You know, BREAKING THE LAW!!

DPB @ 5/1/2012 4:50 PM

The Pew folks said "Net" gain. The devil is in the details! They are still crossing in droves, along with the terrorist who will be striking when the time is ripe. Better get prepared!
