Celebrities and activists will call for the release of Mumia Abu-Jamal during an Occupy-style protest later this month marking the cop killer's 58th birthday.

Actor Danny Glover and rapper M-1 of Dead Prez will be joined by activists Frances Fox Piven and Norman Finkelstein to engage in acts of civil disobedience, according to a post on the Democratic Underground website.

Organizers say they have requested a meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss "systemic police corruption and civil rights violations in Abu-Jamal's case."

Abu-Jamal was given the death penalty in 1982, after his conviction for killing Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. He was removed from Death Row in January, after an appellate court vacated the death sentence. Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied his latest appeal to overturn the murder conviction.
