VIDEO: Cops Drag Man In Airport Arrest

The Oklahoma City Police Department has launched an investigation into the arrest of man who attempted to sneak past an airport security checkpoint, claiming he was with the CIA and had documents to share with presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, reports The Oklahoman.

Officers arrested James Jay Heidebrecht, 53, at the Will Rogers World Airport on Feb. 20—the same day Gingrich was visiting the city. Surveillance video captured the 9 a.m. incident, which began with Heidebrecht shouting, "I'm with the CIA. I'm the director of the CIA."

Officers then used TASERs on Heidebrecht after a scuffle broke out during his arrest. After Heidebrecht refused to stand up, officers dragged him face down to a police office in the airport. He was then given a medical exam and taken to Oklahoma County jail.

The department has said Sgt. Joseph McMahon was one of the officers involved in the incident.

Sorry, it did not look like he was getting his A$$ whiped or anything....just didnt look that bad to me. Yes, standing would have been prefereable, but sometimes that just does not happen

It looks like part of the tape is missing. Before I make a full judgement I want to see the full tape. Pulling the man by the feet in and of itself is not excessive he was refusing to get up.

Chuck McKenzie @ 3/26/2012 7:35 PM

PC rules! This obviously deranged dirtbag violated federal law, resisted arrest, and had to be Tasered in ordered to be handcuffed. He wasn't injured, was examined by a doctor before being taken to jail, but he was so mistreated. I don't understand what these liberals want as they demand we coddle the idiots while enforcing the law.

Dusty Dunn @ 3/27/2012 6:51 AM

In what academy do they teach police to drag people by their feet. We are just handing over ammunition to the ultra-liberals by this type of policing. There was 3 officers, 1 handcuffed suspect and what appears to be nobody else around to warrant moving him so quickly. If nothing else, put a baton under his arms and carry the idiot. These cops were out of line and will inevitably cause grief for the rest of us.

Dusty:

Do they teach you how to run someone over with your car in your academy? Crack them over the head with a brick? Stab them with a knife?

Deadly force is deadly force regardless of how you deliver it. Just because they teach you one method (shooting) doesn't mean there aren't other valid options.

I agree that it "looks bad" but but (respectfully) disagree with your premise that just because it isn't taught in the academy it isn't a valid tactic.

(oops, hit the submit button)

Also, what if the guy had also been a spitter/biter? Don't know that I would want to get up next to his head and try to carry him by the arms.

Though you can't see anyone else around, he is in a screening area of an airport. I can see them needing to remove him from the area promptly, especially if there are others outside the view of the camera.

No biggie to me..

Greg @ 3/28/2012 4:11 AM

People want sausage, you just don't want to see it being made.

After reading the article, sounds like the guy is nuts. "I'm the director of the CIA, I've got papers!" etc. etc. etc. They didn't kick him out of the airport, they told him he had to wait away from the security area. Not a problem till he tried to walk through the exit area.

Oh well, like dealing with happy protesters everywhere, if they won't walk, drag em'.
