White Supremacist Runs for Sheriff In Idaho

March 20, 2012  |

Shaun Winkler has been talking to voters about campaign goals such as cracking down on drug crimes and sexual predators. Winkler is also a 33-year-old landscaper who's running for sheriff of Bonner County, Idaho.

"I believe it's about time that we have a strong law enforcement stance against certain criminals in our neighborhood," Winkler told KXLY.

Winkler also thinks federal agencies like the FBI shouldn't have jurisdiction at the county level. He has no law enforcement experience. He has said he's the leader of the local White Knights of the KKK.

Well, if it is legal to elect just anyone, then just anyone can be elected. Here's proof.

AusFost1 @ 3/20/2012 10:37 PM

No. Just no. You can't. OK?

IaCop @ 3/21/2012 8:46 AM

We elected a marxist/communist to lead the country so why not?

Frank @ 3/21/2012 10:58 AM

Good one IaCop! I guess this guy is not a felon. Does the country get any crazier then this? If he was in my state I make dam sure he wasn't elected. I can see it now meet my Deputy, the Grand Wizard!

If he does win Sheriff, I bet there will be some racial profiling problems. The last thing that county needs is the leader of the local KKK as Sheriff. Think of the lawsuits the countywill end up with and the cost to the local budget. Law enforcement officers are thought of being bullies in some places and that effects all of us. This could set back any how the public looks at all of us.

Capt David-Ret LA County @ 3/21/2012 3:10 PM

At least he's honest about it. And, years ago I remember when San Francisco had a sheriff who got elected after doing time for murder. He may still be there..

Jack Betz @ 3/21/2012 4:36 PM

People get the goverment they deserve. If GOD FORBID, this jerk is elected, we will have proof.

John @ 3/22/2012 4:38 AM

As a 31 yr police vet, nothing surprises me anymore. I do think it should me a mandate in every state that you have to have at least 10 years police experience and documented supervision experience with a current police certification to run for any Sheriff or elected law enforcement position. You have to weed out the flakes.

Jack @ 3/22/2012 9:00 AM

at least he is focused, he wants "a strong law enforcement stance against certain criminals in our neighborhood," not all criminals just certain ones. Message to bad guys, move from drugs to car theft you may be OK. The joke is "if you are of color don't stray away from the interstate," If this guy gets in the white-separatists may have the foothold they are looking for those people who can will drive right through the state without stopping. Where the heck is Bonner Co Idaho anyway
