NYPD Officer Returns Fire, Killing Paroled Robber

An NYPD officer fatally shot a parolee who emptied a six-shot revolver while firing at the officer during a shootout in the New York subway system on Tuesday.
Detective Kevin Herlihy, 47, a plainclothes member of the NYPD's warrant section, was hit in the left biceps by a round fired by Michael McBride, 52. Det. Herlihy had tracked McBride along West 145th Street near his home in Upper Manhattan, reports the New York Times.
Herlihy fatally shot McBride in the exchange. The suspect's .22 revolver was recovered.
