The Blaine County (Mont.) Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Patrick Pyette has died after being hit by a vehicle on Route 2 in the northern part of the state.
A truck broke down between Harlem and Chinook on Wednesday night, and Undersheriff Pyette was directing traffic through the area. Huseby says that Pyette was struck by a motorist passing through the scene who did not see the officer in the roadway, reports KXLF-TV.
The duty death is the second in the agency's history. Deputy Joshua Rutherford was killed by gunfire in 2003, according to ODMP.
