An investigation continued Wednesday into why an Atchison, Kan., man fatally shot an officer and then himself.
Atchison Police Sgt. David Enzbrenner, 46, and other officers were serving nuisance abatement order on Friday, when Skyler Barbee, 25, shot the officer in the back of the head.
Barbie was "a young man who was angry with authorities," a prosecuting attorney told the St. Joseph News-Press.
Sgt. Enzbrenner, a 24-year veteran of the Atchison PD, had "built a life many of us would envy—a beautiful wife, three teenage daughters, a loving extended family, a satisfying career in law enforcement, a fulfilling life of service and spirituality, and a network of loyal friends and colleagues," according to a statement from the city.
The officer "was a role model for young officers, respected by his peers," according to the statement. A memorial fund has been set up for the officer's family.
