A Riverside man with a murderous grudge who tried to kill Hemet police during a series of attacks in 2010 was convicted today of four counts of attempted murder of a peace officer and numerous other felonies, reports MyFoxLA.
Nicolas John Smit, 41, could face life in prison when he's sentenced by Riverside County Superior Court Judge Mark Mandio on Dec. 2.
A Murrieta jury deliberated four days before convicting Smit of the attempted murder counts, as well as being in possession of a zip gun, attempting to ignite an incendiary device in the commission of a felony, conspiracy, five drug-related offenses, and multiple sentence-enhancing allegations, including committing a crime while on bail.

Look back to the time Castro rounded up all his misfits, retardates, psychotics and sundry criminals and put them on the boat sending them toward Miami. They arrived, were coralled and housed by the US in various institutions. Credit must be given to Castro for his ingenious way of ridding his country of misfits. The US has something to learn here. Nicals John Smit should be sent by helicopter insertion to Iran, or Iraq or Afghanistan. Our cost in doing so would be less than were we to house, care for and deal with him in prison for life. To balance it out, the officers he attempted to kill should be part of the mission inserting the fool among the Muslims.
