N.J. State Police Are a Model Agency, A.G. Says

The New Jersey State Police have been a "model law enforcement agency" since being placed under federal oversight in 2009, the state's Attorney General Paula Dow said at a press conference this morning.

The agency was placed under federal oversight by the U.S. Supreme Court to eliminate racial profiling. A.G. Dow released a report today that updated progress, looking at the time period from January to June of 2009.

During that time frame, troopers conducted 405 searches with the consent of drivers, more than three times the number recorded in any other six-month period. A 2009 Supreme Court decision required troopers to obtain a warrant or ask permission to search a vehicle.
