Fla. To Execute Cop Killer 30 Years After Death Sentence Given

September 27, 2011  |

A man who killed a Coral Gables (Fla.) Police officer at a traffic stop is set to serve his sentence on Wednesday, eight weeks after his initial execution date.

Manuel Valle is set to receive an injection of a new mixture of lethal drugs.

Valle shot Officer Louis Pena at a traffic stop on April 2, 1978. Valle was sitting in the patrol car, after the officer pulled him over for a traffic violation. While the officer was running a registration check on Valle's stolen car, Valle walked back to his vehicle, retrieved a weapon, and returned to fatally shoot the officer.

Florida's Supreme Court rejected Valle's latest appeal on Tuesday. His attorneys have appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

After 30 years it is a wonder the suspect didn't die of old age before being executed.

30 YEARS after the fact! Absolutely ludicrous that the taxpayers had to house and feed this POS while a broken criminal justice system allowed what must have been a series of tax-paid-for sharks filed endless appeals. It has apparently always been very clear that he purposely and in cold blood murdered the officer so what could they have been basing three decades of appeals on? Disgusting!

30 years too long for the taxpayers to support the scumbag to live. I just don't understand why it takes so long for our judicial system to act on a death sentence. There should be no fuss no muss.... Death by injection you say? Here's your drug coctail made to order. Good riddens to this piece of worthless trash.

30 years more than the victim had. It is unfortunate that the system cannot use a slow death method just to make the dirtbag think about what he/she had done.

What a waste of taxpayer money,Come on 30 years. This has to stop. He should have been executed in the same month he was convicted and sentenced to die.

This was a complete waste of taxpayers money, disgrace to the juridical system and a slap in LEO's faces everywhere. When the system can be manipulated to this point by these liberal scumbages then no justice can be served. This Police Officer was killed in 1978, come on this is BS it's been over 33 years. This scumbag should be put to sleep, fried, hung, shot, beat or whatever gets the job done and do it NOW.
