Tampa Woman Drags Patrolman for Half Mile
September 24, 2011

A Tampa woman who sped off from a traffic stop dragged a Florida Highway Patrolman hanging from her window at speeds of 50 mph for a half mile.
Veronica Renee Elder, 20, was pulled over Tuesday evening for driving more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit on Summerfield Boulevard.
Elder did not have a driver's license and gave false information when the trooper asked her to identify herself. Elder refused the trooper's request for her to get out of the car.
As the trooper tried to open the door of the Toyota RAV 4, Elder stepped on the accelerator and pinned the trooper's arm in the window. Elder was arrested later after a second attempt to escape.

Why do officers continue to use bad tactics like this? Training should be better and focus on the Officer not reaching through windows or into doors of occupied vehicles with engines running. Retreat, let the suspect run and call for backup.
