Holder Says He Didn't Know About Fast and Furious

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said he and the "upper levels of the Justice Department" were not aware of the Fast and Furious initiative that resulted in the supplying of Mexican drug cartels with firearms.

The botched operation launched by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) resulted in the departure of that agency's chief, numerous media reports, and intense congressional scrutiny.

Speaking about the issue for the first time at a Wednesday press conference, Holder said, "The notion that somehow or other this reaches into the upper levels of the Justice Department is something that, at this point, I don't think is supported by the facts … We'll certainly see, I think, at the end of [the Inspector General's investigation] exactly who was involved, exactly who made the decisions."

Holder's nose is growing longer as he says he doesn't know anything about the fast and furious operation.

Morning Eagle @ 9/8/2011 11:25 PM

..."not supported by the facts...."

Who does he think he is fooling? Since the congressmen began their inquiry and investigation the DOJ has been stonewalling, refusing to release documents or allow testimonies by employees. The few documents released to investigators have reportedly been heavily redacted and practically useless. Holder is lying or if not and he did not know of this illegal and deadly operation, he is at best incompetent and should not remain in that position. But his boss admires a smooth liar because he continually lies to the American people himself and seldom gets called on it. Is the IG from an independent agency or the internal DOJ one? If the latter we can be sure of full disclosure. Yeah, right!

The white house knew about it and if they knew about it,so did he,they probably asked for advice over it and what about his shredded e-mails.

patriot1017 @ 9/9/2011 4:56 AM

I guess he has never heard of vicarious liability either.

Ric Walters @ 9/9/2011 5:19 AM

What a great mug shot the picture accompanying the story would make. How about doing the Roger Clemons on him, and charging him with lying to Congress? How about seeing just how much farther up the food chain this stink rises?

J. Allen @ 9/9/2011 6:00 AM

I'm sorry, but our Attorney General is in way over his head, and there is no question on this issue that he is lying. Why do we continue to let this kind of garbage go on in Washington? And the ATF Chief who stepped down just got transfered to another cushy job (not a guess, it actually happened) which is exactly what would happen to me if I screwed up this bad (NOT). Shame on us for letting this go on.

What a load of bulls$$t, that clown and all the rest of the Obama regiem should br FIRED NOW!!

Fast and Furious and Operation Gunrunner were paid for by a line item in the stimulus package. It is there in black and white. The money went to the Department of Justice. If the Attorney General did NOT know about a 10 million dollar appropriation that went to a department he oversees, shame on him. Holder is lying and should be prosecuted. Since the money was funded by the stimulus package, a lot more people in Washington D.C. (probably includint the resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue) knew about it and are also keeping very quiet about their knowledge. Time for a change.

Congressman Joe said it best, "He lies".

Joe @ 9/9/2011 8:50 AM

With the extensive anti-gun history Holder has, it's unlikely he did not know all about this operation. His failure to convince the U.S. Supreme Court that the 2nd Amendment does not provide for individuals to possess firearms has "stuck in his craw", and Obama's appointment of Holder as Atty. Gen. proved they would have more opportunities to attack gun rights on other levels.

Frank @ 9/9/2011 9:23 AM

This Administration constantly lies. They have no class and are basically novices at running the country. Who has Military experience? So what if we loss a few BP guys from the Cartel shootings. Lets just blame the CCW folks in this country. What the hell their willing to fill this country with a bunch of Illegals to win the White House. Their willing to pussy foot around the Whacko Muslim problems in this country. We should take a page from Saudi Arabia play book. Unless you have official business in Saudi your not welcome. This week Germany said their sick of paying the bills of other countries. We should follow Germany. Plenty of money for Green Programs. But can't afford to hire a dam cop! Every dam day their another LEO shot or killed. This Justice System needs to instill respect for the law!

I would not put it past this administration to secretly facilitate the transport of all these weapons to Mexico with a hair brain back door attempt to restrict private ownership in this country and reintroduce legislation for the assault weapons ban. When the number of murders and shootings go up as a natural result of this influx of these weapons into Mexico and the Mexican government's demand for the US government to do something to stem this tide, our government could then claim that they must restrict private gun ownership in this country to get a handle on the violence and keep weapons from going into Mexico. They did not expect lower level members of ATF to blow the whistle on this secret operation as they would be putting their careers in jeopardy by doing so. Now the operation is blowing up in their face as officers in the US are being killed by some of these same weapons and the facts become apparent. The rats are attempting to avoid their responsibility now by claiming ignorance and/or stonewalling. I would like to see the police chiefs and sheriffs of this county demand Holder's resignation if the justice department does not quit stonewalling on the investigation. Holder has lost all credibility.
