N.C. Deputy Assaulted While Helping Drowning Man

September 06, 2011  |

A Davidson County (N.C.) Sheriff's deputy attempting to save a man drowning in a lake was punched by the man's brother.

While patrolling the High Rock Lake area of Lexington, N.C., deputy Tim Smith was notified by a family member that a 21-year-old man had gone underwater. Deputy Smith went into the water to try to pull the man out.

After the man's body was recovered, the man's brother was overcome with emotion and punched the deputy above the left eye. He was arrested.

Grief is a terrible emotion. I am sure the officer took as much as he could before an arrest was made. Kudos to the officer for his bravery and sevice.
