Two New York City police officers were wounded in an exchange of gunfire on Labor Day that capped a violent weekend of shootings in Brooklyn and disrupted the annual West Indian Day Parade.
The incident began at about 9 p.m. Monday, when Leroy Webster, 32, shot Eusi Johnson, 29, to death in Crown Heights. Webster opened fire on responding officers, who returned fire. One officer was struck in the left arm and chest. A bullet grazed the arm of the other officer.
Over the entire weekend, at least 48 people were shot, including two who were killed Sunday evening.
