N.Y. Cops, Muslims Scuffle Over Head Scarves

September 01, 2011  |

A Westchester County, N.Y., park was shut down earlier this week after officers scuffled with Muslims upset that women wearing head scarves were barred from the rides.

Rye Playland was packed with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

The incident began when one woman began arguing with an amusement park staff member about the park's rule banning the head scarves. Operators said the ban is not Muslim specific and was imposed to keep hats from flying off the rides.

After a scuffle with responding officers, the initial woman and two others were taken into custody.

Go along with the rules or shut the fu-- up. I'm sick of us having to bend the rules for these ungrateful people. I was at the DMV the other day and a lady with a scarf on her head and face was making a big scene. The lady didn't want to remove her scarf for her driver license photo. The DMV staff was apologizing to her and kissing her ass....It made me sick. It is very simple for me, go along with our rules or get the fu-- out, we really don't want you here to tell you the truth.

This is not an acceptable way to behave in my opinion. If you don't want to be regarded as extremists then don't act like extremists. The Muslims in this case brought national attention to themselves and I for one viewed it negatively.

It's simple, if you know that your are wearing something that may be questionable check the parks rules and regs before buying your ticket. If you do not want to abide, don't buy the ticket. Any normal human can figure that out.

It is obvious to me that these people want our laws and customs to conform to them and not the other way around. Tolerance only goes so far and it might be better for all concerned if they just move to France.
