The condition of the El Cajon (Calif.) Police officer who was shot in the head by a deranged man is improving, as the officer has been sitting up and talking while recovering at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
El Cajon Police Officer Jarred Slocum, 28, was shot in the left temple on Sunday at a residence where a man killed his mother-in-law and 14-month-old daughter.
Debbi Baker of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the bullet struck Slocum in the left temple and traveled around but did not penetrate his skull before exiting. In dramatic footage shot by a freelance cameraman, Officer Slocum can be seen pressing the right side of his neck. Later in the video, the wound on the left side of his head can be seen as he is loaded into a patrol car.
