Investigators are still trying to sort out the details of the death of a veteran New York City police officer who drowned while kayaking with his 5-year-old son.
Officer Patrick Luca was found late Saturday morning in the Long Island Sound. He had launched a kayak into the Nissequogue River at about 1:30 p.m. Friday with 5-year-old son Caden. A couple pulled a bobbing Caden from the river about an hour later.
Officer Luca, 41, was a 21-year veteran of the NYPD who "had a passion for recruiting," Inspector Martin Morales told the New York Times.
