Missouri Trooper, K-9 Swept Away by Flood Waters
August 02, 2011

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and his K-9 dog are presumed dead, after they disappeared during flood duty on Monday in Northwest Missouri.
Trooper Frederick Guthrie, 46, likely drowned Monday afternoon in Holt County. His patrol vehicle was found at the junction of Missouri 118 and Missouri 111. His K-9, Reed, has not been located.
Trooper Guthrie was patrolling streets, homes and farms that had been evacuated. A Holt County sheriff's deputy and Highway Patrol trooper found his vehicle with his boat still in tow Monday.
During a search that continued Tuesday, some 24 troopers used grappelling hooks and searched the river for their colleague.
