Detroit PD Makes Gains in Overcoming Former Abuses, Monitor Says
July 12, 2011
|
The Detroit Police Department made significant progress during the past three months in carrying out federally mandated reforms, a court-appointed monitor reported today.
Robert Warshaw said the department has now complied with 72% of the reforms, an 11% increase from the 65% compliance rate recorded in April. Warshaw said the department has now complied with 126 of the 175 reforms.
“Now is the time for the department to redouble its efforts, to fully address the continuing problems that impede progress and to aggressively move forward toward excellence in policing,” Warshaw said in the 212-page report.
There was no immediate comment from the Detroit Police Department.
